Earlier this year my husband surprised me with a camera. ⁣
I was getting more into bird watching so I was so excited about being able take photographs of all that I saw.⁣
⁣
How did I get here? Well, nearly 3 years ago as a new mum, the great outdoors initially served as an escape. I had no idea what I was doing. It was a place where I could go to organize my thoughts and have my daughters attention be on something other than me. ⁣
⁣
We both needed it. We both learned from it. We both grew with it.⁣
⁣
The more time I spent at parks and green spaces the more I started to REALLY take notice of things I’ve regrettably overlooked in the busyness of life...like the birds, trees, butterflies (my favorites). Everyday I had questions and wanted to learn more about their existence...what is impacting their livelihood, and what I can do. I set out to complete my training as a youth environmental educator to pair with my medical background in hopes to spark appreciation and awareness for the natural world and how it can improve the overall health and learning experience of children growing up in today’s digital age. I later became involved with organizations such as Tropical Audubon Society Ambassadors and Park Conservation Corps of Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces. ⁣
⁣
The road has been an incredible one, learning local wildlife and meeting some pretty badass people from around the world along the way. When I would share what I see with my friends they couldn’t believe that such things could be found in our neighborhood parks. It has been exciting to share pictures, names and a little information about each natural treasure. I enjoyed it so much that I created a coffee table book with some of my favorite pictures! I hope to inspire others to slow down and explore their local green spaces.⁣
