A lot of people want props without the discipline of the pen. In real hip-hop, the bars have to stand on their own before the beat ever starts. We don’t chase algorithms. We don’t chase trends. We set the standard . Hit Follow (@BigWyno) for authentic West Coast lyricism and independent culture . BIG WYNO × JP CALI SMOOV feat. DIZZY WRIGHT GOONZ lands worldwide October 31st . When you’re out on two wheels, you can’t outrun your thoughts. You carry the ones you lost… and you hold tight to the ones you’re still building for every single day. The pavement doesn’t erase the weight. It just reminds you why you’re still standing. Hold your people close today. When the pen game is authentic, real emcees recognize it immediately. When Dizzy Wright and JP Cali Smoov locked in for “GOONZ,” the standard was clear: pure lyricism, sharp cadence, and zero shortcuts. No radio fluff, just three verses standing 10 toes, from front to back. “I was cut from a cloth that was creased with starch, Ironed out by the streets, hand signs and bars. I am who I am, you can authenticate that, Take two steps back, then go and verify facts.” “GOONZ” arrives worldwide October 31. Before we knew what a street team was, we were already out there doing the work. Skilfest 2001. A free emcee and bboy battle at the park jam. No budget, just people coming together to make something the city could feel. @havenaq drew the flyer by hand. We printed it on the high school copy machine and passed out thousands throughout the city. All day at the mall. On cars. Wherever we could reach somebody who might come to the jam. The late, great Timmy “Bboy Centrix” Herrera, one of Rated Ill’s founders, organized it. We all brought what we could to help make it happen. These slides hold different chapters of the same movement: the work, the family, and the people we carry with us. Timmy, this chapter will always have your name on it. You can be good, but we’re Rated Ill. What was the first local Hip-Hop event that made you feel part of something? Tell me the event and the city. 🧱 #RatedIll #BigWyno #Skilfest #IndependentHipHop #HipHopCulture Black-and-white hand-drawn Skilfest flyer with large graffiti lettering, two b-boys, a crowd, and a checkerboard floor. Rated Ill archive captions describe the free 2001 park jam and honor organizer Timmy “Bboy Centrix” Herrera. Left to right: Kelsi S. of the Rated Ill dance team, Suga-T of The Click, and BIG WYNO of Rated Ill. Bremer Baden of Rated Ill stands behind them. Black-and-gold Rated Ill archive frame.
