My True Ending

“Things we lose have a way of coming back to us in the end, if not always in the way we expect.” - Luna Lovegood

It is never easy writing these, but it has been especially difficult to write about this season because I thought I was satisfied after aging myself out last year. I would be lying if I said I secretly had intentions to march my true ageout this year. I would also be lying if I said I was not burnt out or that I did not somewhat resent the activity. I was dead-set on growing up and moving on, but I just could not stay away from the marching arts. The truth is that I was capable of giving more, and the universe presented this inciting incident—screaming that I would be a fool not to take it.

Before coming back to Atlanta Quest, my main quest was to figure out life outside of band and college and instead focusing on my career, which was a daunting but possible feat. My confidence in that journey waivered when TJ gave me a call to action (literally) to march again. I was not in a place to sustain both, but I chose to do it anyway and embarked on the B-plot that was Idol. With the help of my allies—both in previous and current lives—I thwarted my inhibitions and eventually married the responsibilities of life with the responsibilities of coming back home to Quest.

In previous seasons, my motivation behind the marching arts mostly centered around the people I shared the floor with. It was selfless and maybe the wrong reason, and it eventually turned stale being the sole motivator since it lacked my soul. I shifted my focus to myself and the experience I wanted. This season was still about the countless hours spent practicing and my complicated schedule built around it. It was still about the carpools and delirious nights. It was still about the silent acknowledgements of love and the new and recontextualized tethers. This time I did it all over again magnified with intentional learning and was able to find the beauty in it all—from the mundane to the profound—so I applied this new lens to the afterword of my story.

Atlanta Quest, you are a part of my heart forever.
AQ had redefined the word family. The hard work and passion in this community is unmatched. I am beyond grateful to have been a small part of this ensemble. Thank you for everyone who marched beside me. Keep fighting.
Thank you to everyone who taught and supported me during this journey. You have made me the person I am today. I cannot thank you enough for believing in me.
I love you, AQ.

Dear CAQ,

There are no words to express how grateful I am to have been a part of this amazing section. And yet, here is my attempt at finding those words. From 2024 to 2026 was the most challenging and rewarding three years of my life. We started off with no culture, plenty of stress, and unrealistic expectations of our section. But, like every line before us, we survived the season. That season wasn't something I was proud of. I was tempted to give up and call CAQ a lost cause. But every day, I am thankful I gave CAQ another chance. Thanks to the staff and members of 2025, CAQ was given life. A new culture built on hard work, passion, and commitment to being great. And in 2026, we only strengthened that culture. But with a new goal: to be the greatest.
We were the greatest.
And I know you will only grow in the years to come.
Keep your promise. Stay committed to each other. Love each other.

From the glue factory,
Max

AQ 2026 was one of the best things that could have ever happened to me. I believe in fate, which allowed me to meet all of my amazing VE team as well as all the new friendships I got to experience this season with Quest. Despite the trouble that I’ve gone through with the season, they have done nothing but support me and help me push through to be the best version that I can possibly be. My father always loved watching me perform ❤️

Getting to understand and appreciate the world of indoor percussion and getting to perform with some of the most motivated, talented, and passionate people has made me such a better person and it is so fulfilling.
