viennese waltz summer. all the fun.

to do this play, to be be in the company of these people, to be at this theatre, to be in this city? each one on their own would have been enough. but together? a galaxy of magic for which i may never be able to wholly express my gratitude. so I’ll borrow @alsilbs’s words instead:

“life is ephemeral. so is the theatre. we cannot hold it in our hands. we all love that which vanishes. the play must end. the company shall disband, life will march on.

and just like the ephemeral theatre, thus is life.

[it has been generally] accepted: the mythology that great art must emerge from suffering, ego, fear, hierarchy, and collateral damage. this experience cracked that open. excellence and gentleness are not enemies. integrity is not naïveté. respect is not the opposite of ambition. sometimes, the highest standard is reached not despite love—but because of it.”

heart full. grateful forever.

Rehearsals have begun for LEOPOLDSTADT 🇦🇹
Peek behind-the-scenes as this sprawling cast of some of Chicago’s finest actors.

Following multiple generations of a Jewish Viennese family through five decades of daily life, until history takes it all away, LEOPOLDSTADT is a beautiful family saga and a haunted elegy for the stage.

And here they are! Introducing the cast of DO YOU FEEL ANGER? by Mara Nelson-Greenberg, the next play in our reading series 💼

This hilarious workplace satire about “the absurdity - and dangers - of a world where some people’s feelings matter more than others’” premiered at Humana Festival of New American Plays at the Actors Theatre of Louisville in March 2018.

We are so excited to watch this wonderful group of actors bring this play to life - for one night only!

Did you reserve your seat yet? Link in bio!

See you at The Understudy!!
