D4. The last one 🏔️

Rough morning for Alex and Laurent, both would’ve happily crawled back into bed instead of lacing up one more time 🐛.
In addition, Joris forgot his sunglasses somewhere along the way and Alex’s knee was done for, making the finish line even harder to reach. Even right till the end, the trip proved to be chaotic at times.

This recap marks the end of our Tour du Mont Blanc fastpack.
4 days. 3 borders crossed on foot. Endless climbs, longer descents, and more salt lost than we’d like to admit 🧂.

Would we do it again? Joris says yes without hesitation. Alex and Laurent... ask them when you see them 😅

📍 Fenêtre d’Arpette → Trient → Les Tseppes → La Flégère

D3. The toughest stage 💀

60km. 3300m D+.

Alex basically summed up trail running today: after every descent you want it to go up again, after every climb you just want it to go down again 😵‍💫.
Meanwhile he also took off like he wasn’t 3 days deep, although all three of us hit the trenches by evening. We still made time for the Tour de France highlights though 🚵🏼.
Toughest stage of the trip. One day to go.

📍 Courmayeur → Tête de la Tronche → Switzerland via Grand Col Ferret → Champex-Lac 🇨🇭

Epic Trail Baraque de Fraiture (P9/121) ⛰️
100.5K | 2625m D+ | 10h42’11”

Not the race we originally had planned, with Tenerife being cancelled, but still a beautiful one.

This block was a reminder that ultrarunning is never a straight line. Training comes with doubts, setbacks, adjustments, and a lot of uncertainty. You prepare as well as you can, but on race day you still have to deal with whatever shows up.

I started strong and moved up to P6 early on, maybe a bit too strong 😅 From around km 60 I got irritation in my lungs and couldn’t breathe deeply anymore, which made the final part a real battle. Mentally though, this was one of my strongest races.

That’s the ultra mindset to me: accept the uncertainty, stay calm when things go wrong, and keep moving forward.

That’s also why I love ultras. Not just for the result, but for the whole process: the hard training, the setbacks, the unknown, and the challenge of finding a way through.

Huge thank you to my crew, @loicvanlaer and @julie.vanlaer 🫶🏼

Also proud of my athletes from @elevaterunningteam :
@laurentvanhamme finishing 20th in the 100K,
@brentlaureys 21st in the 78K,
and @zegerschaeken 36th in the 48K.

Big thanks as well to @sanassportnutrion for the support during this block and on race day!

Time for offseason… and then onto the next 🤩

Mozart Ultra 2025 🇦🇹

92km (4700m D+) in 13h43min52s
Placed 82nd overall (out of 507 starters), 24th in M20-34 and 🥇 1st Belgian 🇧🇪

This one was special. My first ever UTMB 100K-category finish — after a DNF here last year due to injury. I came back determined to rewrite that story.

Preparation wasn’t ideal: a runner’s knee in early March forced me to withdraw from the European Road Championships Marathon. That decision gave me the space to recover and log one solid month of training before race day.

The final week didn’t go smoothly either: bad sleep, low HRV… I wasn’t feeling great. But the night before the race, my HRV bounced back, and so did my confidence.

The first 7h30 (55km) went by smoothly. Strong legs, good energy.
But then — shit hit the fan (literally and figuratively 😅).

I entered the unknown: completely bonked, nauseous, unable to eat or drink, and reduced to the classic ultra shuffle. My knee pain came back too, making me slower and more careful on descents. For the next 4.5 hours, all I could think was: “just make it to the next aid station.”

Eventually, I came back to life. With 1.5 hours to go, I was ready to finish strong.
The skies turned grey, rain began to fall, the trails got slick — but nothing could stop me now.

I crossed the finish line smiling (and crying 🥲), falling into the arms of my biggest cheerleader: @sam.mampaey 🫶🏼
Thank you for being with me through this crazy journey.

Massive shout-out to @brentlaureys for the incredible crewing — this was 100% a team effort 💪
