🍎 Join us as we discuss John Steinbeck’s magnum opus, a multigeneration epic about the cruelties men are capable of in the absence of love.

Don’t let the opening chapter’s long descriptions of mountains and rivers fool you: This is Steinbeck’s great page-turner, 600 pages of family drama, heartbreak and brothel intrigue. Come for the shocking betrayals and brutal violence and stay for the even more unforgettable depictions of friendship and non-toxic masculinity.

Thou mayest (you have free will!) also discuss Elia Kazan’s gutsy 1955 cinematic adaptation 📺 , which tosses out two thirds of the book and many of its most lovable characters but still crackles with emotion, and Zoe Kazan’s new mini-series adaptation, which, if Netflix’s marketing is to be believed, dares to recast one of literature’s most unrepentant, unambiguous villains as an antihero.

Hosted by Evan (@evanryt )

📍 NOTE: We'll be meeting at the *NEW* Bay View location of @brewjascoffeemke ! Free parking. Wheelchair accessible.
