Thank you to everyone that attended last month’s program Queer Caribbean Narratives in Art: A Storytelling Show, co-presented with @thegenerationsproject.

On the evening of Thursday, July 23, singing drag chanteuse @castratanyc hosted a night for queer artists to share stories about their practices and Caribbean heritage.

Surrounded by the vivid paintings of Rocío García in the current exhibition The Object of Power is Power, storytellers included @sonja__jay, @edvinthompson, @soy_sayoa, @bri_bossy, and @nelsonforthewin.

The evening marked the third year of our partnership with @thegenerationsproject, bringing together intergenerational storytelling with thematically related artworks on view.

off the grid. Jamaica 🇯🇲 2026 🖤

This year has proven to me that if you can imagine it you can realize it. I knew that I needed some ME time. Real me time. To collect and gather my thoughts. To REST. To write again. To slow down.

And here comes @theslapcollective ! Curating a space to do just that. Away from Amerikkkaaaa was enough for me to feel lighter lol. Once I boarded the plane to Jamaica i took an intentional deep sigh and opened myself up to the possibility of disconnecting to connect with self and nature and just the elements that remind me that life is bigger, that all is truly well. From daily reflections and prompts, to long walks and warm hellos from Treasure Beach Natives , to bomb food, to morning meditations and sounds by @iambyhaze , everything about this trip was intentional. Journaling and/or reading in the morning with the ocean being the soundscape….HEAVEN. Meeting my new aunties at th the Women’s Group…. Just inspiring and a true testament to what community care can be and looks like! Joseph’s Hide away 🥹🥹 RUM PUNCH CHILLEEEE 😅… a time was had.

I’m grateful for my creative friends who make things like this possible.My sis , @bri_bossy YOU ARE A SPECIAL TYPE OF HUMAN 🥹

Anyways I would recommend everyone whose looking to disconnect, anyone who might need a breather, to follow and check out @theslapcollective !

This trip will always serve as my reminder to prioritize being well not just physically but spiritually and mentally.

We would have returned from our Off the Grid: Jamaica retreat this week feeling renewed, loved on, and centered - not only because of the healing magic that is Treasure Beach but because of all the community that pours into us while we are there 🫶🏾

Hurricane Melissa derailed our plans but we’d love to pour back into the community partners that welcome us into their lives and spaces when we visit!
