I was pleased to represent the City of Windsor and our community today in Ottawa, presenting at the Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources regarding Brian Masse Windsor West’s Bill C-248. I expressed Windsor’s unequivocal support for the establishment of the Ojibway National Urban Park and recognized the federal government’s commitment of $36.1 million for this project. There is still important work to be done to put the necessary agreements in place ensure that we collectively realize the shared vision of a vibrant, accessible, and sustainable space for all. Ojibway is a special place, our community is united behind this initiative.

Earlier this week, our executive director and board members were in Ottawa, at Parliament Hill, engaging in discussions about our study on Islamophobia in healthcare, research we conducted in collaboration with McMaster University. The health of Canadian Muslims is a top priority for us, and we are committed to advocating for #healthequitynow to eliminate barriers to accessing our publicly funded institutions.

Today, Parliamentarians from all stripes stood together to raise the Flag of Poland on Parliament Hill for the first time in celebration of Canada’s inaugural Polish Heritage Month 🇨🇦🇵🇱

It was an honour to host this historic event with my friends @peterfonsecamp, Polish Ambassador to Canada Witold Dzielski and the Canadian Polish Congress.

Very Important Public Announcement! 📣

Our WEBC directors have come to the decision that Windsor Essex Bike Community (WEBC) will be publicly campaigning for the sanctioning of Black Oak Heritage Park multi use trails as part of the upcoming National Urban Park project in Windsor. 🌳

With Parks Canada due to take over Black Oak Heritage park, it is appearing more and more likely that we will potentially lose these incredible trails for public use.

For our organization it is very important that WEBC does everything we can to represent the best interests of cyclists and local trail users. We need to start this trail sanctioning conversation now while the National Urban Park is being organized and planned by the City of Windsor & Parks Canada! 🚴‍♂️🚴🏻‍♀️

We are NOT looking to construct new trails or destroy any natural habitat within the park, but instead hope to sanction the existing trails that have been used at Black Oaks for over 30 years!

It’s the local cyclists and trail users that cleaned up Black Oak Heritage park over the last decade, removing garbage, off road vehicles, and illegal activity that was happening within the park before. It has been the cyclists and trail users that have allowed Black Oaks to redevelop into the incredible natural space it is today! 🙌

We strongly believe trail users and maintaining environmental sustainability can coexist! WEBC wants to work a long side the City & Parks Canada as partners to find a way to maintain ecological integrity of the National Urban Park while allowing trail users to enjoy the incredible existing trails within Black Oak! 🤝

We are now looking to mobilize the entire cycling and trail using community to express the need to sanction these trails!

Please sign WEBC’s online petition that we hope can get thousands of signatures to present to the City of Windsor and Parks Canada.

The potential positive social, economic, tourism, and environmental impacts this could have for youth, local residents, business owners, and trail users in Windsor is limitless.

The 🍓We Are One 🍎 team was filled with 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐣𝐨𝐲 🥲 for having the pleasure of meeting the unforgettable Roseville Public School community. Everyone from the students, school admin and teachers, volunteers and sponsors, our hearts are truly full and we will never forget the smiles and ❤ you so freely gave us. We are so grateful to you all, especially Board Director Victoria Houston and Principal Tracy Dempsey for making this a smooth process right from the beginning and our sponsors who made this financially possible.

We had the honour to have Brian Masse @brianmasse_m and Chris Lewis MP chrislewisessex give their time, support, and hands-on deck to feed the students on the last day of this pilot. This incredible experience ends with a bitter-sweet moment for we have reached the final day of our pilot. 𝐀𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐝, 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭.

Our next step is to share our experience and the data we collected from this pilot project with the local, provincial, and federal governments. Although they have announced funding, we will not give up until Canada has implemented a National School Lunch Program for every child.

🥹 𝐖𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 and together we can do this! Please write your MPs about our program and how much it meant to you and your family. It meant the world to us to roll this pilot out at such a crucial time, as the conversation about a National School Lunch Program has hit the desks of our decision-makers.
