HOPE/BELIEVE IS NOT A STRATEGY.

With all due respect to the legends especially in the gospel industry, it is high time we move from acting victims and look at consumer behaviour and numbers

@dr.reuben_kigame has come out to complain AGAIN about peanuts he just earned from @pavriskkenya , because in his mind, without any evidence or numbers to back up, he believes that Kenya is liatening to his music more than any other and as a result, he deserves more. He does this annually. (Using him to refer to other legend artists too). But is it true, or just a generality and assumption that Kenyans listen to Enda Nasi? What happened to shift in consumer behaviour.

Pavrisks collects royalties from public transport, hotels, radios, tv and other public places. As much as they have a long way to go in terms of liscensing a wider audience to tap more royalties, artists too have a role to play to influence listeners behaviour.

Lets ask real questions:

1. When last did you hear Enda Nasi on your radio or tv? What informs the choice of a song to earn airplay on radio and tv today?
2. When last did you walk into a restaurant or bar and heard the song play?
3. When last did Reuben Kigame release music that reached far and wide? Or you want us to believe that miraculously the audience of 1980s is still the same one today? Especially today when artists release music monthly.
4. When last did you meet a product advert whether digital or physical promoting Reuben Kigame songs?
5. Does the new generation know Reuben Kigame or Embarambamba?
6. How many covers or Enda Nasi are in public domain? What has Reuben Kigame done to tap royalty share from those using his melody and lyrics?

Lastly, Reuben Kigame has had opportunities in places of influence in the music industry. And even as a presidential candidate, we expect solutions from him not lamentations. CMO bosses, State department of digital economy are all a call away from him. Him acting as a victim, is killing the hopes of young upcoming artists.

A legend is an honour for impact not years in service.
