@acalatattoocollective can have four bodysuits in progress under one roof while, in the next room, a first-time client is carefully guided through every step.

That tells you almost everything about this Wappingers Falls studio.

Founder Brian Faulk built Acala as an artist-led collective where five resident tattooers bring more than 80 years of combined experience without surrendering what makes their work their own.

Brian’s Japanese-inspired tattoos blend Buddhist imagery, traditional foundations, and a Western illustrative eye. Many large compositions are drawn directly onto the body so they move with the wearer.

Carolina Villalón specializes in cosmetic and restorative tattooing, including areola tattooing for breast cancer survivors and clients who have undergone mastectomy, reconstruction, or gender-affirming top surgery. Her work also spans American traditional, illustrative, and minimalist styles.

Jason Carpino specializes in sacred geometry, dotwork, ornamental patternwork, and blackwork.

Jason June draws from Japanese Irezumi, traditional Americana, mysticism, and esoteric symbolism. Your appointment might even include a tarot reading.

Maxwell Shoberg creates large-scale black-and-grey realism and biomechanical work with bold foundations, negative space, and long-term readability.

Each artist works from a private, curated room, but ideas and techniques move throughout the collective. Manager Krystal Catale, @hvac.hvac.hvac, keeps the whole machine moving, supporting the artists, the studio, and every client who walks through the door.

First tattoo or fourth, bodysuit, small piece or years-long composition, the same care applies. And if Acala is not the right fit, they will recommend another local artist. The right tattoo matters more than keeping every project in-house.

Booking is “by appointment or chance.”
