Thank you to everyone who came to our Culture Night event last week with @nicholasfoxweber of the @albers_foundation and artist @brianfay1!

It was a special moment for us to be able to sit down with Nicholas Fox Weber, Director of the Anni and Josef Albers Foundation, to speak about Anni and Josef Albers legacy. Nicholas shared amazing stories behind the Albers’ lives and works which highlighted the contributions to art they made. We are honoured to have works like Fay’s, AA Open Letter PNG, 2022, which remembers Anni Albers’ legacy.

Brian Fay's work, AA Open Letter PNG, 2022, which is currently on display as a part of our current exhibition Selected Works from the UCC Art Collection, combines the depiction of an abstract weaving with with a portrait of the renowned artist Anni Albers, widely considered to be the foremost textile designer of the 20th century.

Nicholas Fox Weber is Director of the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, perpetuating the vision of Anni and Josef Albers through exhibitions, publications, education, and outreach concomitant with the Alberses’ personal values.

Journal Page 3: Lines that Connect Us. 🖊️

Spent National Drawing Day exactly where an aspiring professional artist should be—completely immersed in local inspiration at the Luan Gallery for the Divergent Lines exhibition.

Honest reflection? Sharing a bench and drawing side-by-side with my daughter inside that beautiful light-filled space was pure magic. It’s exactly the kind of creative core memory I want to build.

The curator tour was masterfully done, giving deep context to some incredible contemporary Irish draftsmanship. A few massive standouts you absolutely cannot miss if you visit:

📁 Michael Wann’s Tabulinum Purgamentorum (Binned Archive) – Hearing him speak on the narrative of a fictional, discarded archive was spellbinding.

⏳ Brian Fay’s Three Stages of Restoration (Vermeer) – A beautiful, temporal study of permanence and decay.
🌿 The brilliant spatial, site-specific work of Kiera O’Toole and Lelia Henry that beautifully commands the room.

Highly recommend making the trip out to Athlone to experience it. It’s free, inspiring, and running from 22 April until 21 June.

Did you pick up a pencil for National Drawing Day? 👇
