The swords are easy to spot. The better thing to notice is who's standing next to each kid. A dragon three times her height, eyes closed and content. A huge wolf working alongside a father and daughter. A shaggy, long-horned beast carrying a young rider and a full pack. In Brian Taylor's pictures the giant creature is rarely the threat. It's the friend, the ride, the lookout. Brian is an illustrator and animator focused on middle grade fiction and graphic novels, where that kid-and-creature bond does a lot of the storytelling.
