Bride of Fright Night by @booksonthebosque was a 10/10 event. Incredible, supportive bookstore with a vibrant community, a stellar lineup of Horror authors, a day-long event with talented artisans and a rad tattoo studio, thoughtful panels with moderators who deeply cared and asked questions both probing and hilarious. Writers, if you get an invite next year, DO NOT MISS IT!

Bride of Fright Night - the best damn horror book event in New Mexico two years running! Books on the Bosque, the volunteers and the fine folks at the South Broadway Cultural Center delivered an amazing experience for the fans. It was an honor to do my part. Can’t wait to do it again!

📚 Fairly Bad Ways To Die - Brian McAuley ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

This is my first time reading a book by Brian McAuley and I have to say I would 100% read another one. It was a really fun read. Sure there were some gory scenes but the dialogue was witty and the setting was a Renaissance Festival so it added a really bright and whimsical note to a book with a masked killer in it.

I had a bit of a hard time connecting with the main characters but I think it’s cause I happen to be in an older age demographic than they are: I really liked them but there was something stopping me from fully engage with them.

I tend to know who the killer is right away but with this one the reveal wasn’t exactly as I expected it to be and it ended in a surprisingly upbeat way for a slasher novel which was refreshing.

I want to thank the author @brianmcwriter , @poisonedpenpress and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read this ARC - publication date: April 6, 2027 #fairlybadwaystodie #arcreview

One week until Halloween… some slasher books to read before time runs out! Here is a stack of slasher books to binge on…

Tastes Like Candy by Jessica Lacy - A masked man slashes his way through a carnival that eight senior girls snuck into after hours.

Clown in a Cornfield by Adam Cesare - Teenagers trying to survive a killer clown in a small town farm setting.

The Mary Shelley Club by Goldy Moldavsky - A secret society of high school students orchestrates fear pranks based on movie tropes.

The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix - A secret support group of survivors of slashers who find themselves being hunted one by one.

Breath In, Bleed Out by Brian McAuley - A wellness retreat in the desert at Joshua Tree turns deadly while a slasher is on the loose.

Dead of Winter by Darcy Coates - A group of eight stranded in the snowy mountains are brutally attacked one by one by a slasher. Take note, this one is pretty gory.

Curse the Reaper by Brian McAuley - An aging actor’s mind unravels as he’s haunted by the iconic slasher he once betrayed on film after a reboot is announced.

I Was a Teenage Slasher by Stephen Graham Jones - 80s nostalgia of a 17 year old after a near fatal prank becomes a reluctant slasher in their own film.
