Another high day lift. Focus is on getting as strong as possible. Using the whole body in tons of different ranges while not forgetting to be an athlete.

Activating before a high day. Wake the body up, get the heart pumping, and then get after it

Road to Recovery 💪

I’ve been through a lot on my 28-month road to recovery. Sharing what I’ve learned is something I’ve wanted to do for a while, and today I’m finally starting.

From everyday lifestyle habits and workouts (Programmed: @brice__crider), to how I fuel my body, I’m excited to share it all. Follow along as I get back to being healthy, one day at a time!

Most baseball practice lives in the middle: too controlled to create meaningful exploration, but not representative enough to prepare athletes for competition.

In his first appearance on Finding the Edge, Brice Crider explains how to separate learning days from performance days, structure practice with a reverse-hourglass model, and bring pitcher-hitter interaction into training without turning every rep into a full-intensity competition.

Staying Out of the Middle: Designing Rich Learning Environments is available on Finding the Edge. Listen on Spotify through the link in our bio.

Recorded while Brice was with Driveline Baseball. Brice has since founded Rubicon Performance, and his return appearance is coming next.

Summer Recap: Heading back out to school today and wanted to break down what I have been up to this past summer.

Stuff-wise, fastball is better than it was, slider is still my best pitch by a good margin, and the splitter has turned into a decent arm side offering, way better than the changeup it replaced. Mobility work paid off too, especially T-spine and hip abduction, both in a much better spot than where I started in June. Lower body power showed real gains on the force plates, though bodyweight is playing a small factor there that I'm aware of. Grip strength climbed all summer on the throwing arm with no red flags on asymmetry.

Going into the next block the focus is: facing live hitters and learning how to use these new pitches while maintaining the strength, mobility, and power that I have built.

Goals before the spring:

- Add 5 more lbs of muscle
- Drop 2 more % body fat
- Get fastball averaging 90
- Bring miss distance down further, especially on splitter

Not pictured from today :

-Jav, Discus, Shot Put progressions
-High Jump progression

60m x3, 200m x3, 400m x2 as well this morning

Keep learning, keep training hard. If you are through with either of those, you are through.

more thoughts on upper body training for footy —

rugby players should be training more upper body qualities that resemble a throwers.

throwers are some of the most elite upper extremity athletes in sport when it comes to tolerating stress through the shoulder complex.

this matters in footy.

rugby constantly demands the upper body to create & yield to force in chaotic environments — tackling, carrying, wrestling, & stabilizing in contact.

yet a lot of training still sits in bodybuilding or straight line strength work — & that’s not entirely wrong.

hypertrophy & maximal strength are sick — I benched in this video lol.

but if the goal is performance & resilience — we also need more rotational power, ballistic intent, deceleration capacity, scapular control, & efficient force transfer through the trunk & upper extremity.

there’s also value in training joints through uncomfortable positions isometrically — in an 80 minute match of rugby, your shoulder complex will inevitably find itself in disadvantageous positions that you better have explored under load before match day.

throwing a baseball or javelin at high velocity is one of the most violent actions the upper body can do.

the shoulder complex has to create & decelerate to force at speed — rugby doesn’t need 90 mph throws but it does need those same underlying qualities.

I’m not saying train like a pitcher — I’m saying footy players have a lot to gain from training the qualities that develop a gnarly thrower.

so after you bench 3 plates:
go throw a med ball or something stupid like that.

Great summer training session yesterday with @davis_throws & @brice__crider

- Jordan working on staying behind the block while bringing more speed

- Brice working on clearing the pelvis and rotating the back hip into the block

Summer training is what separates the good from the great 🚀

Jordan’s Summer Schedule

- Jav Fest July 11th
- USA Championships July 25th
- Jacked Javelin Classic July 30th

Pt 1. Stress Notes

Your body doesn’t adapt in spite of stress, it adapts because of it. The right amount of stress challenges the system, forces adaptation, and makes you stronger, faster, and more resilient. Too little stress and nothing changes. Too much stress and we diminish returns.

Pt. 2 Movement efficiency and energy utilization tomorrow
