The Meetup. Last year, Wes and I were sipping cocktails while I vented about wanting to see more people who look like me in the film scene. I told him one day I would like to create a space dedicated to that. Wes suggested, “Why not do it now?” and “Why not do it together.”

Last week, we hosted our sixth Meetup, a gathering for Black, Brown, Asian, and Indigenous filmmakers and actors to connect and unwind in New York. Our little Meetups are growing into a constant space for creatives of the Global Majority.

my favorite pictures are the ones with my cohort (thank you @travisemeryhackett !!) i feel like i can see so many moments when im connecting with each of them. I see myself laughing and thinking with people and I feel the blessing it is to be seen and in community.

2 years ago i was introduced to protools for the first time and felt instantly hooked. Now im working alongside and connecting with sound professionals with 5-30+ years of experience in the industry. Sound has been a door thats opened for me that allows me a life ive dreamed of: one guaranteed to be full of learning growing connecting and imagining with others. This craft has opened up my world; it has provided me with moments of profound focus - disconnection from the fear and questioning what i want to do. because sound is it. and its because i get to do it with all these incredibly dope people - my people (those pictured and all the other incredible filmmakers and sound designers and mixers ive had the blessing to connect with) AND because I freaking love protools 😁😁😁

I am so excited to be in this moment.
