Wino’s 50th Birthday Weekend 🍷☀️ – Vineyards, Villages & a Few Travel Adventures Having skipped the football and the Laphroaig the night before, I was up early while everyone else enjoyed a lie-in. I wandered around Vernaison in the cool morning sunshine, hoping to find breakfast and supplies. Sadly, nowhere was open, but it was lovely exploring the peaceful village before the day began. Next stop was Lyon station for a wonderfully air-conditioned first-class train to Tarare. In 34°C heat, that air conditioning felt like heaven! At Tarare we were met by Kate’s friend, Florence, who took us to her family’s vineyard, Le Crèt de Bine. Hearing Flo share over 150 years of her family’s history in the Sarcey region and their connection to the vineyard was fascinating. We sampled four fabulous wines before enjoying lunch in the shade—a delicious spread of pâté, local cheeses, fresh bread, garlic bread and a traditional pink praline dessert. From there we visited Oingt, the Golden Pearl of Beaujolais. This beautiful medieval village was full of charm, and after wandering its cobbled streets, an ice-cold beer in a shady bar was the perfect escape from the heat. Our final stop was Flo’s beautiful home, where a refreshing dip in the swimming pool was just what we needed after such a hot day. Then came the unexpected twist! Our train home was cancelled because of fires affecting the railway, so our journey back to Vernaison involved a replacement bus and yet another Uber. Not quite the ending we’d planned—but another memorable chapter in an incredible birthday weekend. 🇫🇷🍷☀️ #Beaujolais #WineTasting #LeCretDeBine #Oingt #FrenchAdventure

Wino’s 50th Birthday Weekend 🍷🇫🇷 – Let the Celebrations Begin Raphael and his spaniel, Twinny, greeted us. She was beautiful! After settling into our apartment, we couldn’t help but admire the beautiful French décor and those picture-perfect views across the rooftops of Vernaison. It was the perfect setting to begin a very special weekend. Naturally, the celebrations started in style with a bottle of Bollinger. 🥂 As the evening cooled, we wandered through the village to Chez Paul’O, where we enjoyed a truly fabulous meal. By complete chance, there was a wedding reception, so our dinner came with an unexpected soundtrack: a singer and an acoustic guitarist serenading guests throughout the evening. It created such a wonderful atmosphere. Our walk back to the mansion was just as magical, crossing the beautifully lit bridge before discovering the village square alive with World Cup celebrations as France celebrated their victory. The party spirit certainly didn’t end there—the neighbours carried on the festivities well into the early hours, with music and celebrations continuing until 5am! What a way to kick off an unforgettable birthday weekend. 🇫🇷🍷✨ #Celebrations #Vernaison #Bollinger #FoodieGirlsWeekendAway #MakingMemories ❤️

Wino’s 50th Birthday Weekend 🍷🎉 A few snaps from our journey to our beautiful accommodation in Vernaison, France. The trip got off to a great start with stunning views as we flew into Lyon, a chance chat with Miguel Campbell, and a few more chapters of Book 2 in the Bourbon Brothers trilogy. We were greeted by glorious sunshine on arrival, although the climb up to the mansion—and then the stairs to our apartment—definitely counted as our first workout of the weekend! ☀️🥵 And the celebrations had only just begun… 🍷🇫🇷 #50thbirthdaycelebrations🎉 #WineLovers #GirlsWeekendAway ❤️
