Dear rowing,

When I first heard about rowing, I was completely skeptical. I had never really known much about the sport, and no one around me had participated in it. When I finally decided to give it a try, I felt scared, nervous, and excited all at once. From the day I started rowing at SLRC, I knew I was going to fall in love with the sport, and I did exactly that. I’m so glad I made the tough choice at the time to put down the basketball and pick up an oar.

When I transitioned to Division One rowing at Kansas State, I was scared. Stepping into college athletics was something no one I knew had ever done, and it has been a journey that has shaped me into who I am today. Rowing is very difficult and mentally demanding, but I’m so grateful I gave it a try because it has given me a much better outlook. I now know that if I put my mind to it, I can achieve whatever I want.

While this chapter may be coming to an end, I am thankful it was a part of my story. I want to give a special thank you to my dad for encouraging me to try something new. Thank you to my mom for reassuring me in all my decisions. Thank you to all my coaches who have believed in me and pushed me to be better. Thank you to my family for supporting me at every regatta they could attend. And last but definitely not least, thank you, rowing, for giving me some of my best friends and making me feel like I belonged 💜
