Life post-festival season has been full of E-mails, Meetings, Great Gigs… BUT ALSO: Attending suppers, going to blockparties, eating the best food, swimming in lakes and rivers, enjoying good company and fighting a flu. Greatful for this life ❤️

Fashion designer, Brigitte Da Conceiçao is part of the HEAD – Genève fashion ecosystem, with collections shown through the school’s Défilé platform.

The young Masters graduate grew up in Switzerland as the daughter of a political asylum seeker, who, as a young widow, fled Angola during its 27-year civil war. As a result, Birgitte was raised in a mainly white society, which birthed a tension that inspires her work.

“Growing up here, I quickly noticed that being from a different culture, we were asked to integrate ourselves and to conform to certain expectations. It is difficult however to blend in when your difference is read on your skin. As a black woman, I don’t conform to the beauty norms of the society in which I live. Early on I felt both like I was invisible and that as a black body I would never be able to go unnoticed.”

In this 2023 collection, she reimagines humble bath towels as a metaphor for personal empowerment:

“The bath towel that has already been used is both the material and the concept of my collection. I take it out of its primary, utilitarian function, by applying work to ennoble it in order to magnify its poetic function of care and comfort and make it into a garment. In the same approach as my textile developments, I revisit my personal references as desires for personal empowerment. Clothing becomes a means of embodying and regaining possession of one’s body in public space.”

Last summer, she debuted her first independent capsule collection in a launderette in Paris. The collection is the first under her new label, Brigitte.

Storytime: when I had my @gurtenfestival_official debut, in 2024 I played this song as an intro 😈 to One of the most energetic sets I’ve played up to date.
Listen y’all… I was 2 months postpartum and going throouugh it physically and mentally but all this was FORGOTTEN as soon as I got on that stage, and felt the incredible energy of my friends and the best crowd. This specific set gave me the boost I needed to keep going despite becoming a mommy.

This year I not only get to play, but I get to CLOSE (AKA SHUTDOWN) my favorite stage.
The last set is my favorite part of the festival because of the incredible release that everybody feels (including all the organizers, staff, artists and festivalgoers…)
I’ve been working for the festival as an artist host since B.C. (before covid) so trust me it’s a magical moment.

Sooooo all this to say: meet me on the Soundgarden Saturday July 18th for another memorable set ❤️‍🔥
