So many beautiful souls who were strangers to us, but through the stories we’ve heard, the lives we’ve learned about, and the words we’ve shared with their families, they have become a piece of us.

They should be here.
They should still be living their lives.
They should never have been taken from this world.

May this Kaddish be a prayer for them.
May their souls be held in eternal light🕯️

Ask anyone and they will tell you that September 1 2024 was by far the hardest day of the war after October 7. October 7 was marked by shock and horror, but by September 1 there was so much anger and despair. Eternally sorry to the beautiful 6

31.8.24. Two years ago. 💔

It has been two years since that Saturday night at the end of August — the night when time itself seemed to stop.

The excitement of starting another school year disappeared in an instant and was replaced by horror, fear, sadness — and desperately hoping that the news wasn’t true.

Rumours raced through the air, whispers carried from phone to phone, message to message: the bodies of six beautiful hostages, kidnapped alive, were being recovered from the tunnels and brought home to Israel.

The list of names began to circulate:

Ori, Almog, Eden, Alex, Carmel, Hersh. 💔

I remember standing outside the President’s Residence in Jerusalem, at the start of that night’s demonstration, when the message lit up my screen.

I couldn't hold in my gasp of shock.

Around me, people locked eyes with me. Tears were already brimming in their eyes. Yet we kept walking together toward Kikar Paris, toward the rally calling for the release of the hostages.

Shay Dickman, Carmel’s cousin, was speaking on the stage.

Did she know?
Had she heard?

Just in front of me was Hersh’s cousin. He was walking with his head held high, and I remember thinking: Everything must still be okay.

We were reassured. This was not the first time Hersh’s name had appeared on such a list. We wanted — needed — to believe that it wasn't true.

And then, at 6 a.m. on September 1st, a knock on my bedroom door.

My daughter Mika stood there.

“Mum,” she said, “they’re all gone.”

Ori, Almog, Eden, Alex, Carmel, Hersh.

Six people who had been kidnapped alive on October 7th.

Six families whose worlds were shattered all over again.

I will never forget that night.
I will never forget that knock on the door.
And I will never forget those six names. 💔

Two years ago today, we received the news we had prayed would never come.

Six young hostages had been murdered in Hamas’s tunnels in Gaza: Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Carmel Gat, Eden Yerushalmi, Almog Sarusi, Alexander Lobanov and Ori Danino.

The next morning, September 1, children across Israel were heading out for their first day of the school year.

And then the rain came.

An unexpected downpour, on a day when the whole country already felt broken. It somehow felt as though the skies were crying with us.

Two years have passed, but we remember the Beautiful Six. Their smiles. Their lives. The futures that were stolen from them and the families who have had to live every day since with an empty place where someone they love should be.

May their memories forever be a blessing. 🕯️🎗️

Today marks two years since the IDF recovered Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Ori Danino, Carmel Gat, Alexander Lobanov, Almog Sarusi, and Eden Yerushalmi, z"l, six hostages who were brutally murdered by Hamas in August 2024 after 328 days in captivity.

They were kidnapped on October 7, 2023. Five were kidnapped from the Nova music festival and one from Kibbutz Be'eri. They were held in tunnels beneath Gaza until Hamas took their lives just days before IDF forces reached them.

We remember them, mourn them, and hold their families in our prayers. May their memories forever be a blessing. 🕯️
