5 years married to my best friend. 🤍

Doing life with you has been one of God’s greatest gifts. You’re my favorite person, the one who makes me laugh the hardest, who shows up for me on the hard days, and who makes even the most ordinary days feel special.

You’ve been my safe place through so many seasons of life, especially the hard ones. I’m so thankful I get to go through all of this with you. I swear I fall more in love with you the longer we do life together.

Our story wasn’t exactly love at first sight. Thank God you were persistent and I finally opened my eyes! Because once I realized I liked you as more than a friend, that was it. I never stopped loving you.

Happy 5 years of marriage, boo. I really did get to marry my best friend. You’re my favorite person to laugh with, dream with, and figure life out with. I don’t just love you, I genuinely LIKE you, and I think that’s one of my favorite things about us.

I love you endlessly. Here’s to the life we’re building and all the years ahead of us.

The day we met, I wonder if God looked down at us and thought,

I had given up on love, but God had other plans.

Now we’re 5 days away from 5 years married, and through all the highs and lows, you’ve been so much more than just my husband. You’re truly my best friend and one of my greatest blessings.

We’ve prayed, we’ve waited, we’ve cried, and we’ve kept choosing each other through it all. And I really feel like the prayers we’ve been praying for so long are finally going to be answered soon.

Five years of praying for a baby has taught us something we never expected: how to keep living while we wait for the life we’ve prayed so hard for.

Two years ago, we came to Mt. Lemmon for the first time with my sister, nephew, best friend, and her family. Once we were at the top of the mountain Eric and I looked at each other and knew we were moving to Tucson. So we did… 6 months later.

We really thought our life would look different by now.

But Tucson gave us something we hadn’t really had before: just us.

My mom lived with us for eight years, and we’re so grateful for that time and everything it meant to us. But we never really had that season of just being married, having our own space, and finding our own little rhythm.

Over the last year and a half, we’ve learned to slow down and appreciate the life we have while still grieving the part that’s missing.

We’re still praying. Still hoping. Still waiting.

But we’re also learning how to enjoy this season while waiting for the next one. 🤍

Sometimes strength is finally feeling safe enough to really feel it all constructively.

So I stood at the top of a mountain this evening and let myself feel all of it. The grief. The love. The years. The people I miss- some gone, some not. The parts of myself I had to become to survive. The life I somehow fought my way into.

And it felt incredible.

This weekend could have been a lot of things. It turned out to be exactly what I was building without knowing it.

Look, there is a difference between proving yourself to other people and becoming someone who trusts her own word. All I know is today I did the things I said I would do. I’m realizing that every time I keep those promises to myself, I’m building evidence.

Evidence that I can trust myself.
Evidence that I don’t have to disconnect from myself to survive anymore.
Evidence that softness and strength can exist in the same fucking body.
Evidence that this safety isn’t temporary.

I’ve been building evidence that I can trust myself to be the person I need no matter the day, trigger, or season.

Apparently a person who reaches out to a friend, climbs mountains, cries at the top, and then gets absolutely fucking blasted by endorphins and laughs all the way home.

Remember folks- bad bitches are sad bitches sometimes, too. Both can be true.

A year ago I made a quiet decision to stop drinking. No big announcement, just a choice that felt right in my heart. My biggest prayer has always been to become a mom, and I wanted to start showing up for that baby before they’re even here. I’ve always been a social drinker, so this wasn’t easy, but I’m really proud of myself for choosing something bigger than the moment.

Becoming her 🦋

A year and a half ago, I walked away from what was comfortable… and everything changed.

We moved.
New city.
New gym.
New church.
New community.

And somewhere in all that unknown… I found her.
A softer, stronger, more grounded version of me.

I was gone for almost a month, and coming back made me realize something…

This life we built in Tucson… it finally feels like home.

Butterflies don’t just appear.
They fight their way out of the dark to become something new.

And I feel that.

Everyday.

I used to cry over the kind of love I thought I’d never have.

12 years of almosts, wrong people, and trying to make something real out of things that kept breaking me.

No real example of what a healthy marriage looked like… just me hoping I’d figure it out one day.

And then I met him.

And even now… in the middle of our waiting season… I still have moments where I’m like, “God… you really did this for me?”

Because this isn’t the easy part of our story.
Infertility has stretched me, broken me, humbled me.
There are days I don’t feel like myself.
Days I’m grieving something I don’t even have yet.

And he’s still here.

Still choosing me on the days I’m quiet.
On the days I’m angry. (luteal phase is no joke)
On the days I don’t have anything left to give.

We’re not perfect.
We get on each other’s nerves.
We have hard conversations.

But we stay.
We grow.
We fight for us.

And in the middle of all this waiting… that kind of love feels like the only steady thing I can hold onto.

I didn’t just get a husband.
I got a partner who meets me in the hard.

And I will never, ever take that for granted.

In our waiting season 🤍 part two

Week 2 in San Diego was all family.

Our in laws drove out from Palm Desert to meet us at the beach and we just soaked it all in. The sun, the conversations, the time we do not get nearly enough of anymore. Our youngest niece and nephew are growing up way too fast.

We started the week with more quality time with P and Jag. Watching P at her 5th grade promotion singing the national anthem, I had that same thought again… how is this even real? Middle school in August. Time does not slow down for anyone.

One of my favorite days was a full beach day. The most I have been in the water in a long time. It was a yes day for her and honestly, I think I needed it just as much.

We ended the week the only way that feels right. With my mama and Eric grabbing Stella Jean’s ube pandesal because some things you just do not skip when you are home.

This season still feels like a mix of everything. Joy, ache, gratitude, longing. But we are leaning in to the people, the moments, the now.

Trying to hold it all at the same time 🤍
