POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
A few images from Broadway Classic tonight before a fight abruptly ended Game 2 of a 3 game championship series. Two talented teams, serious competition, and $20k on the line.

From my view on the sideline—the tension had been building: trash talk, chippy play, and unfinished business from the last game.

Then it crossed a line. Someone kicked a player who was already down. Whatever preceded it, that’s unacceptable. Being a professional comes with responsibility, including publicly owning your actions when you go too far.

Thankfully, things didn’t escalate further and everyone went home safely. But protecting our community can’t depend on luck.

We lost people this year following altercations on the court. Those losses should remind us what’s at stake. Any large gathering can become the setting for something irreversible. We need more people bringing positive energy, calming tensions, and refusing to feed negativity and violence in the moment. Not just filming and watching.

What I saw missing tonight was clear, visible leadership. Earlier intervention from the refs. Better lighting so players couldn’t sneak in so many cheap shots to fuel the animosity. Commissioners setting and enforcing boundaries early and as tensions escalated. Players and Coaches holding themselves—and each other—accountable.

When we bring hundreds of people together, we’re responsible for creating the conditions for safety. One incident can cost us a life, a tournament, or a space the whole community depends on.

Those of us with cameras have responsibilities, too. The footage will circulate. But where’s the same energy for understanding what happened and preventing it next time?

We need more voices saying: Keep it cool. Keep it basketball. Separate. Let’s resolve this. More people helping de-escalate and fewer feeding the confrontation.

Us hurting each other should not be a form of entertainment. And “that’s just how it is” cannot be the standard we accept and fulfill.

Compete hard. Respect each other. Take accountability. Honor the game. Protect the community. We have to do better.
