The TRASH CAN FROM HELL Edition:

Respectfully, fuck is wrong with ya’ll?

NYC identity politics are a seesaw.

The last few days I’ve been squirreled away in the mountains, harvesting pine cones, and joy scrolling Knicks content while recovering from what I consider was the greatest week in New York City since Obama won.

And all I see is all of social media dog piling on that one very strong ass woman who had the “audacity” to steal one of the @onlynystore & @department_of_sanitation Knicks parade trash can collaborations.

“OMG she’s littering.”

“So fucking gross…”

“(Insert all the unnecessary derogatory insults, weight shaming, and slurs here. Mix it in with some moral high ground & performative piety here.)”

Feel free to unfollow me if you want but… MAN FUCK ALL THAT SHIT! ONLY NY definitely knew that someone was going to do it. Best marketing move since Noah started selling Flood Insurance.

It’s gotten so crazy that I had a close friend hit me up this morning showing his disdain for the act, putting me on, like I haven’t been actively bullying people who were bulling that woman for 3 whole days (pretty easy when you have a shitload of work you need to distract yourself from).

I had to remind my dear friend that we are fucking vandals, currently touring a huge hard cover book covering over 26 years of shitting all over other peoples property (OUT RIGHT NOW ON @peripheriebooks. I wrote an essay for it, and will be taking it to Tokyo in July).

I’m not a fan of littering. My favorite thing when I used to work the door in front of clubs in NYC was seeing how far I could flick my cigarettes. Now that I live in the Catskills, my wife won’t mix her laundry with mine because my pockets are always filled with butts & joint clips. That being said, would I have done what she did?

No.

Mostly because I couldn’t drag that can on the Amtrak to Hudson NY without raising several eyebrows, and my 50 year old spine would have Jenga’d apart from the weight. But when I saw that clip I WAS JEALOUS AF.

Look.

Had that trash can been alone somewhere in Harlem, or next to a Blank Street Coffee in SoHo, I would have agreed with all of you. Shit is a wild look.
