Long Post Ahead…

My main goal for people who walked into my classroom is that they knew what they were getting. While it’s rather obvious without the prospect of knowing me you would be walking into a space centered around sports, the office, and my love for @haleyreinhart 😂…

I also knew it was going to be a huge opportunity to have a lasting and positive impact on so many teenagers lives. With that, I wanted people to know my room was a safe space where they would get love, empathy, compassion, an ear for them to talk to…and yes, discipline. After all, it is “in-house suspension”😂.

In a psychology class I took in college, the professor always said, “The message lies with the receiver.” To that point, I got the best unintended compliment from a frustrated teacher this year. “Are we even sure we want to send them to Coach Chris anymore? All they do is look at it as a reward.”

Ask any kid that was sent to me for discipline and they will tell you, it wasn’t to have fun.

Rules and expectations still apply but my approach of love and empathy clearly had the positive impact I was hoping to make.

As much as I pray I was able to help be a positive impact for these youngsters…they have no idea how much they’ve all changed and impacted my life for the better. Through many laughs, tears, moments of pain and suffering, anxiety, break ups, moving away, transferring schools, or just fighting for a good grade…these kids willingly shared so many personal moments and I’m so thankful God put me in this role to be there for them.

I can’t wait to make more memories next year with the amazing staff I work with and the students that make up our wonderful school!
