At Cooking Up Connection, we’re not just teaching young people how to cook—we’re helping them build the life skills they need to thrive.

This week, we had the privilege of welcoming Mr. Scott for a powerful self-defense and personal safety workshop. One of the biggest lessons he shared was that the best fight is often the one you never have. Through de-escalation, awareness, and smart decision-making, our chefs learned that confidence and prevention are some of the strongest forms of protection.

The workshop also covered:
🥋 Conflict de-escalation strategies
📍 Situational awareness and personal safety
📱 Online safety and recognizing potential dangers on social media
🛡️ Practical self-defense techniques for real-life situations

As many of our chefs prepare to enter college, the workforce, and greater independence, these lessons are just as important as learning knife skills, food safety, and culinary techniques. We believe preparing young people for life means investing in the whole person—not just their career.

A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Scott for generously sharing your time, knowledge, and passion. You challenged our chefs, answered thoughtful questions, and created an engaging, hands-on experience they genuinely enjoyed. The smiles, laughter, and determination throughout the class said it all.

At Cooking Up Connection, we’re building more than future chefs—we’re building confident, prepared, and resilient young leaders.
