Most of this work will disappear under the PVC—but it’s what makes the deck. Framing is coming together on this two-storey build, and I’m looking forward to laying the boards and seeing it all take shape.
Big thanks to @bromonlumber for being flexible with deliveries and working around our project schedule. We appreciate it!

A private garden, shaped by the city.

In Toronto’s Riverdale neighbourhood, a narrow urban backyard is transformed into a layered retreat, an intimate composition of architecture, stone, planting and light.

Warm decking and charcoal architectural elements establish a quiet framework, contrasted by oversized natural stone, moss filled joints and lush, layered greenery. A sequence of terraces creates distinct spaces for gathering, dining and retreat, each connected as part of one continuous landscape.

Built in seating, integrated planters and carefully considered transitions allow the architecture and garden to move together, balancing precision with a softer, more natural expression. Custom formed stair nosings and a bespoke exterior façade give the space a distinctly one of one character, while discreetly integrated parking introduces a rare and valuable dimension to the property.

As daylight fades, the landscape takes on another character. Light traces the architecture, reveals the texture of the stone and lifts the canopy overhead, creating depth and atmosphere throughout the garden.

A considered response to urban living, private, expressive and deeply connected to its surroundings.

From an unused side yard to a clean, functional wooden walkway! 🪵🔨

This project included custom framing, precise measurements, multiple levels, steps, and pressure-treated wood decking to create a safe and durable pathway between the fences. Every detail was built on-site to follow the slope and make the most of the space.

Another transformation completed by Canada NorthStar Construction. 💪🏗️

276 linear feet. Three fence sections. One challenging landscape. 🔨🌲

This project called for a custom approach from start to finish — navigating significant grade changes, three separate fence sections, and a custom double gate to create a clean, consistent fence line across challenging terrain.

Built to work with the landscape, not against it — with a couple of unexpected site supervisors keeping an eye on the progress. 🐭🐶😂

Another big fence project in the books!

Our biggest backyard transformation yet 👏

From an outdated deck and underused patio to a completely transformed outdoor space built for entertaining, relaxing, and enjoying for years to come.

This project included:
• Full deck removal + new walkout deck
• Custom privacy wall
• New interlock patio
• New privacy fence
• Updated retaining wall
• Fresh sod + complete backyard refresh

From the first step to the final detail, this one was a big transformation and we’re pretty proud of how it turned out.

After → Before 🔨

Swipe to see the transformation. This fence was leaning & warped, and no longer doing its job. New posts, new panels, new lattice top -built to actually hold up.

Finished this week despite the heat 🔥
