Nine years ago today, I was a rock climber. Today, I’m a rock and roller 😉 Honestly, I woke up this morning and wouldn’t have remembered the date if my buddy @js_rolling hadn’t reminded me. #life I usually mark this time of year with some kind of adventure. The last couple of years have been eaten up by quality, meaningful work— great things #lucky. I intended to post 1 picture for every year but came across so many good ones. Thank to all my friends, adventure buddies, adversaries, and strangers for supporting and challenging me. #spinalcordinjury sucks— Yet—no doubt— I haven’t slowed down much. And even better—- Today I’m a better human. #love #wheelchairlife

I love me some swimming and biking and “running”. More gravel and off-road triathlons please! Thanks @withoutlimitsco for a great, albeit 🥵 race day. Pavement racing is not for me. Road handcycles and racing chairs is more expensive equipment and road biking with traffic is exceptionally dangerous and not where I want to be! I want to exercise and play on gravel roads and on dirt trails. Off-road triathlons, I did them before injury and am so happy to finally return! What took so long? Well, I had to get over the fact that e-assist might “ruffle some feathers” for official sanctioning bodies. Remind myself, I am not “cheating” —- and finally my desire to race overtook!!! 👊🏽 Lucky and thankful to have my @reactiveadaptations Bomber and @bowheadcorp RX to conquer terrain and elevation at a racing pace. More off-road races for me!!!!! …and maybe that Para Category will finally get divided up more distinctly between 2-wheeled and 3-wheeled assist and non-assist categories. Huge thanks to the incredible @jnpines for encouragement among other things! Friends. 8 is an arbitrary number. A highlight of the Twin Cities Marathon this year was the rich time I spent with people I love. This “community of the broken” has been my consolation prize for having an SCI. I don’t know what I would do without my people. There is an instant understanding that comes with shared trauma, loss and grief. It’s a brotherhood, to be sure. Even greater when a shared experience, like racing the TCM, lends to the greater good: expediting research for quality of life. Here are 26.2 reasons (one for every mile of a marathon) that I am hand cycling the Twin Cities Marathon as a charity fundraiser for Unite to Fight Paralysis (U2FP). U2FP is a grassroots, spinal cord injury advocacy, non-profit. The lion’s share of our financial support comes from donations from real people, who care about our work to expedite recovery. 8 years of “sitting on my ass”. 🤣 It’s been a wild ride. #spinalcordinjury it isn’t very easy. A few pictures represent bad days but apparently I still have a lot of good days— smiling through the nerve pain, pissing myself, feeling frustration, discrimination, and still sorting my identity. Tomorrow officially marks 3 years of living in Colorado. Every Colorado-rsary of mine, I like to take a look back and retrospect on the life that I've lived here so far. It hasn't always been pretty or easy. Some of the hardest life challenges I've ever faced were in the last three years; but there has been beauty in absolutely all of it—the good and the bad. Here's a little compilation of some of my Colorado life lived with some incredible friends and loved ones, mostly in chronological order: 1️⃣ Loving life up here at 10,152’ (📸 by: @thefoxnamedreda at @rruokyte.photo) 2️⃣ I joined my uncle @soyanarchisto in Boulder at the start of a global pandemic, but we managed to eat sushi and love life anyway 3️⃣ My first climb of the second Flatiron with miss @bronsonmacd17 4️⃣ Traversing Telluride’s via ferrata 5️⃣ Sunrise on Longs Peak 6️⃣ Horseback riding in NoCo with my fav adventure gal, @michelle_sroda 7️⃣ Winter hiking with the Mountain Mamacitas, @kaylees_wild + @hilaryhikes 8️⃣ Leadville livin’ with my bestie @emma.g.sull 9️⃣ Summiting my favorite mountain with my favorite climbing partner, @naturemonsterr 🔟 Skiing @skicooper with my dear @gracehubbard._ This slideshow is only a tiny fraction of the best memories of my entire life—all shared with some of my favorite people. Life is so, so wonderful. Here’s to the many more years of Colorado life I have to go. 🥂
