Life as of late

So many reasons to not run today, none mattered. Ankle is absolutely donzo, time went out the window early and the goal was just to finish. My slowest marathon to date but probably the one I’m most proud of. To hell and back, came out on top.

3 years ago, I set my sights on running a marathon in under 3 hours. The marathon itself is already hard but I truly didn’t understand what it actually takes to run sub 3. Your life changes, your body changes, and everything you do matters that much more. Nonetheless I chased it, and with a baby on the way, went all in on making it happen this year in Austin.

Well, like the marathon itself, life is unpredictable and I took a nasty fall on my ankle and it wiped 3-4 weeks of training which was supposed to be my training block peak.

The last 2 weeks have been full of anger, frustration, disappointment, even rage at times, feeling like 3 years worth of work just all went down the drain. But I’ve come to truly learn that I’m not in control, only God is. I can only control how I show up. So Sunday, I’ll take the streets of Austin, choosing to show up with gratitude. Grateful for life, for my wife who’s been my rock, and for the journey it’s been so far.

Sub 3 is off the table, but I’m still going for a PR. I know that’s kinda delusional but can’t do something unless you believe right? I’ll let it fly, empty the tank, and have a damn good time doing it.
