“The cost of community is inconvenience”.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Community.

This past week, in many conversations I’ve had, the importance of community has been a central theme.

Recently, a lot of people I love have experienced a lot of sickness and loss. I’ve watched as their community surrounded them and supported them through hard times. It seems during these difficult seasons, it’s often said, “I don’t know how people without community get through this.”

And I agree. I don’t know how people navigate grief and loss alone. I don’t know how they get through hardships alone. In our times of difficulty Nate and I relied heavily on our community to push through. Even when there’s nothing anyone can do, just knowing they’re thinking of you and lifting you up in prayer is so comforting. We weren’t meant to do life in isolation.

And.

When I think of community it’s often about how they show up in hard times, however I’ve just been sitting this weekend in the goodness of community in the exciting times too.

This weekend Brooklyn’s team came to our area and as I sat and looked around during her games on Friday and Saturday night, I was just overwhelmed with love, thankfulness, and pride in our community.

It’s so fun to celebrate the exciting things of life with your people too, and that’s exactly what this weekend was.

So, as the weekend wraps up, I continue to sit in the goodness of my friends and family and thank God for every single one of you. ❤️

September was a busy month full of volleyball and occasional photos of Jaxon from Spain. The day to day can get tedious, but when I take a step back and look at the big picture, I can’t help but feel overwhelmingly blessed. 🥹

On the phone the other day Brooklyn told us there was a good chance she would be playing in their first game of their first tournament today.

We tried really hard not to get our hopes up or transfer our excitement onto Brooklyn, who was already feeling nervous.

Nate decided last minutes to wake up super early and make it just in case. I’m so glad he did! 🥹 We knew Gran and Pop were going to the tournament, which made my momma heart happy, but Nate getting to share with them in this awesome day…my heart could almost burst!

I’m so thankful for technology because I was able to watch from home.

I was not prepared for the flood of emotion as I heard “And now for the Wayland STARTING lineup. Number 6- Brooklyn Bundy.”

Sure enough, she started in the 9 o’clock game and then she started again in the 4:30 PM game.

I’ve also included some clips of what the announcer had to say about Brooklyn Bundy, the freshman from Fort Worth (read in an announcer voice).

I won’t make a post every game, but this deserved a spotlight!

I know that sports aren’t the end all, be all. And we know, and Brooklyn knows that her worth isn’t found in playing time or kill percentage, BUT knowing how hard she worked and sacrificed for this, makes it pretty special to seeing it pay off.

Brooklyn Bundy, our little “jolt of energy!” 💙💛🏐

Nate and I are making the trek back to Fort Worth from dropping Brooklyn off at Wayland, and he asked me how I am doing and I immediately say “I’m fine.” He calls me out and says, “You got your walls up?” And I nod my head yes.

The truth is I’m not quite sure what exactly I’m feeling…I can’t quite pin it down. As I look at the window, watching row after row of cotton pass by, trying to sort through what I’m feeling, the best I can come up with is the imagery of a tornado of emotions within my heart.

Swirling within me is…
An intense pride in who Brooklyn is as a person.
Excitement for her as she begins this new adventure.
Anticipation for what this volleyball season will bring.
Joy in the relationship we’ve built over the years.
Confidence that she is a strong, independent woman who is equipped and determined to succeed.

Yet all of that is interlaced with some sadness. I’m sad that her legs won’t be propped up on our kitchen table every morning as she drinks her coffee.
I’m sad that she won’t be there to insert her humor into every conversation we have around the table.
I’m sad that she won’t be there to walk with me after dinner.
I’m sad that Tatum won’t have someone to bicker or laugh with on the way to school.
I could go on and on, but mostly I’m sad about all the little things we’ll miss without her daily presence.

About the only emotion I’m not currently experiencing is worry. I’m not worried about Brooklyn. I have no doubt that whatever she faces in this new phase of life, good or bad, easy or hard, she’s going to come out on top.

Saying goodbye is hard. Jimmy Dugan once said, “…the hard is what makes it great.” For me, I have to twist his words a bit. It’s the great that makes it so dang hard. The relationships we all have with Brooklyn are so great. The presence she has within our home is so great. The joy she brings to our lives is so great. And that’s what makes it hard.

July was full of some great moments!

Jaxon spent the majority of the month as a counselor at Mountain View Christian Camp in NM. He grew and was stretched in ways that I know will benefit him for the rest of his life.

Brooklyn spent the month working and gearing up for her upcoming volleyball season at WBU. Sometimes she’d invite me along as a workout partner. It’s humbling when your kid is so much stronger than you…

Tatum put in as many hours as she could at Summer Pride getting ready for volleyball and basketball. She also spent countless hours up at the church prepping for VBS. She has a servant’s heart and donates her time like no one else I know.

The girls also spent a week at Pine Springs Camp. For the first time in a LOT of years, Nate and I stayed home. It was weird. And hard. And good.

We spent the last part of July celebrating our Tater Tot and enjoying our last few days as a family before Brooklyn goes to Plainview and Jaxon goes to Spain.

It was a good month.

Today has been quite a day of celebration!

We started the day celebrating the beautiful union of the Moores (Tatum missed the picture because she had to leave early for volleyball tryouts) and ended it celebrating our beautiful Tatum’s birthday!

Today is just one of those days that fill your cup! 🥰
