There’s a certain kind of anxiety that only shows up before race day.

The night-before nerves. The early alarm. Getting dressed into your hotdog suit while the rest of the world is still asleep. That first breath of cold morning air against your glitter skin, the butterflies, the doubt, the “what if I’m not ready?”

It doesn’t really matter if it’s your first race or your hundredth. That feeling never completely goes away.

And maybe that’s part of why we race.

You might arrive alone. You might not know anyone in the start gate. But mountain bike racing has a funny way of changing that. You’ll find someone to pedal with, someone to cheer for, someone to high-five at the finish and probably a few new friends along the way. Who knows, maybe you’ll even leave with a new bike 🤷‍♀️

Coal Town Throwdown isn’t about making every race feel heavy. Come have fun. Push yourself. Get rowdy. Ride with your friends. Make some new ones. And leave with a story.

September 5. Cumberland, BC.

Only 8 spots left to make this a full century of racers. 👀

Registration is through the UROC Events page.

And if those early-morning jitters are already getting to you… you can pick up your race package a day early on Friday Sept 4th, at The Gravity MTB Garage, 3pm to 5pm

Tag your mom, your riding buddy, your favourite trail auntie, or anyone who’s been saying, “I’m too old for that.”

We’ve got good news.

The Coal Town Throwdown has officially added Masters categories to the Cruiser, Giver, and Full Send divisions, giving more experienced riders a chance to race and battle it out for the podium against their peers.

Whether you’ve been thinking about giving racing a try or it’s been years since you pinned on a number plate, this is your sign.

Who’s calling their mom first? 👀

Registration is open—come race with us September 5th 2026!

If you’ve been watching these reels and wondering, “Okay... but which category would I actually ride?”
Here’s the rundown.

Youth (Under 14)
A great place for younger riders who are newer to biking or racing. It’s a shorter, more approachable course, but if they’re feeling confident, they’re welcome to sign up for any category that matches their ability.

Cruiser
Perfect if you’re newer to mountain biking or racing, or you just don’t feel like going full gas all day. If you’re comfortable on blue flow trails and want to challenge yourself without taking things too seriously, this is probably your category. Three stages, about 12 km.

Giver
You’ve got some experience under your belt and you’re ready to push a little harder. Blues are your happy place, with a bit of black thrown in for fun. Four stages, around 15–20 km.

Full Send
You came to race. You love going fast, you’re comfortable on black diamond trails, and you’re looking for the biggest challenge of the day. Five stages, 20–25 km, including an extra black diamond stage.

Full Send Masters (40+)
New this year! If you’re 40 or older and racing cruisers, givers or senders, you’ll also be scored in the Masters category.

Party Pace
Honestly... this one might be my favourite. No timing chip, no pressure, no racing the clock. Just grab your riding buddies, cruise the trails, cheer everyone on and have an awesome day. Any non-motorized bike is welcome, including Class 1 e-bikes.

One of my favourite things about Coal Town Throwdown is that it really isn’t just for racers. Whether you’re trying your first enduro, chasing a podium, or just looking for an excuse to spend a day riding bikes with an incredible group of women, there’s a place for you.

So... what category are you signing up for? Or better yet, tag your riding crew and tell me who’s riding what.
