TRACKING TRENDS 📈📈

Over the past year and a half I’ve been tracking trends with my pitchers using their data overtime to see what their trends progress to.

Tracking trends is crucial because it turns development from guessing into a clear, evidence driven blueprint for elevating a pitcher’s performance. When I track velocity across different spans and environments, I’m not just collecting numbers, I’m mapping out how an athlete responds to training, intent levels, and workload over time. Those patterns show whether a pitcher is moving forward, holding steady, or slipping, and that’s where the real value is. When the trend is climbing, it shows that movement patterns, strength, mobility, power, and recovery are all working together, and the goal becomes reinforcing that momentum so the rise continues. When the trend dips, it signals that something in the process needs to change (not always), whether that’s workload, movement quality, recovery habits, or overall physical readiness. Adding the environment into the picture is just as important because bullpens, live ABs, touch and feels, side sessions, and mound blends all influence output differently and help explain why certain days spike or dip. In the end, consistent progression tracking turns development into a clear, evidence based story that helps pitchers understand their own patterns, sustain upward momentum, and make the right adjustments exactly when the data shows they’re needed.
