Katy la Blennie
(Parablennius pilicornis)
La blennie pilicorne est facilement reconnaissable grâce aux grands tentacules qui surplombent chaque oeil! Sa couleur est variable, de jaune a brun, elle mesure une dizaine de centimètres au maximum.
C'est un poisson plutôt sédentaire qui nage assez peu et reste posé sur le substrat. S'il part se cacher, il repointe rapidement le bout du museau dès que le calme semble revenu.

Katy the Blenny
(Parablennius pilicornis)
The pilicorne blenny is easily recognizable thanks to the large tentacles that overhang each eye! Its color is variable, from yellow to brown, it measures about ten centimeters at the most.
It is a rather sedentary fish that swims fairly little and remains settled on the substrate. If he goes into hiding, he quickly repoints the tip of his nose as soon as calm seems to have returned.

Thibaut le Vanneau
(Aequipecten opercularis)
Encore appelé peigne operculé ou pétoncle blanc, ce coquillage n'est pas toujours facile à voir: difficile de le distinguer sur le substrat quand il est fermé....
Mais quand il est ouvert, on peut observer son manteau bordé de cils et ses nombreux yeux bleu/vert.
C'est un animal filtreur comme souvent les coquillages: il se nourrit des particules en suspension dans l'eau qu'il filtre en continu.

Penelope the Queen scallop
(Aequipecten opercularis)
This shell is not always easy to see: difficult to distinguish on the substrate when it is closed...
But when it is open, you can observe its coat lined with eyelashes and its many blue/green eyes.
It is a filter-feeder, as is often the case with shellfish: it feeds on particles suspended in the water and filters it continuously.

Côme le Siphonostome
(Syngnathus typhle)
Il n'est pas toujours facile de repérer ce poisson qui ressemble à s'y méprendre à une feuille de posidonie !
Il mesure environ 30 cm de long.
Il fait partie de la famille des hippocampes et comme chez les hippocampes c'est le mâle qui s'occupe des œufs fécondés jusqu'à leur éclosion !

It is about 30 cm long.

Sylvia l'Hervia
(Cratena peregrina)
L'hervia est l'un des premiers nudibranches que l'on rencontre quand on commence à plonger sur les côtes méditerranéennes.
On la rencontre dès les tous premiers mètres, le plus souvent en train de manger des hydraires ou en train de pondre.
L'hervia est un nudibranche eolidien, elle mesure généralement de 2 à 3cm.
Avec ses tâches oranges sur la tête, ses cerates colorées et ses longs palpes labiaux, c'est un sujet apprécié par tous les photographes !

Sylvia the Hervia
(Cratena peregrina)
The hervia is one of the first nudibranches that you encounter when you start diving on the Mediterranean coasts.
It is found from the very first meters, most often eating hydration or laying eggs.
The hervia is an Aeolian nudibranch, it generally measures 2 to 3 cm.
With its orange spots on the head, its colored cerates and its long labial palps, it is a subject appreciated by all photographers!

Garou le Mérou
Merou brun (Epinephelus marginatus)
Ce poisson qui peut mesurer plus d'un mètre de long se rencontre souvent dans les 15 premiers mètres de profondeur. Il préfère les eaux les plus chaudes et se tient souvent juste au dessus de la thermocline.
Ce poisson est dit hermaphrodite protogyne, c'est a dire qu'il change de sexe au cours de sa vie: il naît d'abord femelle puis devient mâle! Tous les plus gros individus que vous pourrez observer sont donc des mâles, comme ici sur la photo !
Dans les zones marines particulièrement protégées comme le parc national de Port Cros il n'est pas rare que les mérous curieux s'approchent des plongeurs, comme ici pour regarder son reflet dans le dôme de l'appareil photo !

Dusky grouper (Epinephelus marginatus)
This fish, which can measure more than one meter in length, is often found at the first 15 meters of depth. It prefers the warmest waters and often stands just above the thermocline.
This fish is said hermaphrodite protogyne, meaning that it changes sex during its life: it is first born female and then becomes male! All the largest individuals you can observe are therefore males, as shown here in the photo!
In particularly protected marine areas such as the national park of Port Cros, it is not uncommon for curious groupers to approach divers, like here to look at their reflection in the dome of the camera!

Loulou le poulpe
Poulpe commun (Octopus vulgaris)

Le poulpe fait partie de la famille des mollusques.
On le connait aussi sous le nom de pieuvre, mais il s'agit bien du même animal!
Doté de huit bras, 3 coeurs et 9 cerveaux c'est un animal extraordinaire et très intelligent ! Il est passé maître dans l'art du camouflage garce a ses chromatophores qui lui permettent de changer de couleur et il dispose d'une réserve " d'encre noire" qu'il peut envoyer comme un écran de fumée pour se volatiliser....

Martin le Dauphin
Grand dauphin (Tursiops truncatus)
Le grand dauphin est un mammifère, ce n'est pas un poisson... 😅 Il a besoin de remonter à la surface pour respirer grâce à son event.
C'est un animal qui vit souvent en groupe, il est assez souvent visible près des côtes et il aime jouer dans les entraves des bateaux.
Il communique avec son groupe a l'aide de sons spécifiques.
Il a un super pouvoir, l'echolocation : un solnar qui lui permet de "voir" son environnement sans utiliser la vue.

Bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus)
The bottlenose dolphin is a mammal, not a fish... 😅 It needs to come back to the surface to breathe thanks to its event.

Mathias l'anthias
(Anthias anthias)
Encore appelé barbier, ce joli poisson rose se rencontre dès 20m de profondeur.
Les mâles comme les femelles ont cette jolie coloration rose vif, mais les mâles arborent des nageoires pelviennes plus longues et teintées de jaune.
Cette espèce est dite hermaphrodite protogyne, c'est à dire que tous les individus naissent femelles et que certains d'entre eux deviennent ensuite des mâles.

(Anthias anthias)
Also called swalllowtail seaperch, this pretty pink fish is found from 20m deep.
Both males and females have this pretty bright pink coloration, but the males have longer and yellowish pelvic fins.
This species is said protogynous hermaphrodite, which means that all individuals are born female and some of them then become males.

Bertille la Thuridille
Thuridille de Hope (Thuridilla hopei)
La Thuridille fait partie de la grande famille des opisthobranches mais ce n'est pas un nudibranche, c'est un sacoglosse!
En effet ce petit mollusque possède 2 parapodes de chaque côté du corps qui le recouvrent comme un manteau.
De sa tête en V émergent 2 rhinophores lisses.

The Thuridille is part of the large family of opisthobranches but it is not a nudibranch, it is a sacoglosse!
Indeed, this small mollusk has 2 parapodia on each side of the body that cover it like a coat.
From its V-shaped head emerge 2 smooth rhinophores.
