JHS Colourbox pedal under the hood video Part Two! We couldn’t get the box opened easily so Omar looked it up on line and explains what’s inside and what he thinks based on his knowledge of pro audio components in the many consoles he’s worked on. Remember this is just tech talk and not an audio test. I’d do a shoot out with a Neve except I sold it after we did this video! Haha. It’s probably still cool especially for a live rig. For a studio rig I think I’d rather just use the real thing or even a good copy like the Heritage Audio 1073 style pres and EQs. #jhscolourboxv2 Special thanks to @scalingpedals for posting this useful info we referenced.

I want to give a big shout out three amazing companies that are located here in Miami.

First is Six String Theory which is operated by Albert Fortes. He is the guy to go to for all guitar and amp repairs. He also builds custom guitars. Albert is a magician. @six_string_theory

The second company is Browner Sound. Custom recording equipment, repairs and restorations. From hand-built consoles to custom designs and modifications, they design, repair and restore vintage and modern audio equipment for studio and stage. Omar is a super friendly guy. @brownersound

Finally it’s Scholz Electronics owned by George Scholz. He is a visionary in amplifier and speaker design, widely regarded for his innovative work in refining the classic British sound. Known for collaborating with Harry Joyce, George co-developed high-quality amplifiers and speakers that earned a reputation for exceptional tone and reliability. His Sugarcone speaker deliverers unparalleled clarity and projection, making it a favorite among renowned artists like Prince, The Black Crowes, and more… That’s high praise. @scholzelectronics

We musicians and music makers are lucky to have them here in our home town.

I received so many DM‘s regarding the Laney amplifier I’m using in that last video so here’s a front shot of VH100R and also how it lives in my Laney stack of my home studio. I purchased VH100R after seeing it on Guitar Center website as fully operational and it was a relatively good price. Sadly, when I receive the amplifier, it was almost non-operational so I brought it to my local amplifier technician @brownersound for evaluation. The output transformer 16 ohm segment was damaged so this needed to be rewound and fixed. The depth control need a repair due to a loud hum. Channel B gain stage was damaged as well requiring the replacement of two potentiometers and a damaged LED external light. The power tubes were fine, but we went ahead and replaced all of the preamp tubes, yes all six of them, and now the unit is fully operational and sounds sick! Guitar Center was gracious enough to offset the cost of all the repairs so we are good. Do any of you own the same amplifier? I have not seen any of these out in the wild nor can you find much about them online, although there are several videos of people using them on YouTube, but that’s about it nothing in the marketplace. Let me know in the comments 👇🏻

Just got my Laney VH100R back from the shop. Needed some pots for the channel B gain stage that were wonky. @brownersound fixed it right up. Great amp tech and supercool guy. I sent him this video showing it in action. Now I’m sending it out to y’all. We’re back! Still obsessed with opening up Neves and talking to Omar of @brownersound about what he sees under the hood! We’re about to start exploring all kinds of audio gear beyond Neves and also cool modern and vintage musical instruments, but, right now let’s have a look at the Neve 1081 and 31105 on Omar’s work bench! #nevemicpre #neveeq #nevechannelstrip #neve1081

Omar and I have both been really busy in the past few months so we haven’t had a chance to do any new videos, but, we’ll resume soon with all sorts of content! But, I went to visit him today and we managed to do this quick video with another useful tip from Omar @brownersound ! Boom mic stands for drum overheads can be bulky and real estate hogs. Sometimes in a small space you can just hang some mic stands from the ceiling! It’s especially secure if you get these clamps he mentions that are normally for camera equipment but they’ll work well for mic booms too! Check it out! #drumoverheads #micstands #brownersound
