It was such an ABSOLUTE pleasure sitting down with these @bedstuyfly beauties. Dr. Gail Taylor on Bed-Stuy, #brooklyn - "This place is sort of like a womb or a cauldron that when you go in it, you come out stronger. You come from this community of largely very strong, empowered, impactful women. You have cultural institutions, schools that educated us, churches that strengthened us spiritually."
.

💛 Visit Stoop Stories, attend an event, share a story, invite a friend, or make a donation. Help keep these conversations alive and these connections growing.

Find them at StoopStories.com (and check their official channels for upcoming events and ways to give).

Because stories matter. Our elders matter. Our young people matter. Our neighbors matter. And in a world that can sometimes make us feel more disconnected than ever, gathering to listen to one another is an act of community and love.

Now, if you know, you KNOW! Let's hear our chant:

S.T.O.O.P. — STORIES TOLD IN NYC! 🗣️💛

Seven days at Cinema Village.

Nukhufest 2026 brought filmmakers, audiences, artists and collaborators together in New York City for screenings, Q&As, workshops, panels and conversations around independent film.

Some filmmakers watched their work with a New York audience for the first time. Others returned after years of being part of Nukhufest. People who arrived knowing one film left knowing the filmmakers behind several more.

A lot of our favorite moments happened outside the screenings themselves.

Filmmakers meeting after Q&As. Cast and crew seeing one another’s work. Conversations continuing in the lobby. People traveling from across the country and around the world to be in the same room. Our Cinema Village team helping us make seven straight days of programming possible.

At Opening Night, we talked about advocacy as something larger than financial support. Tell someone about a film. Bring someone with you. Share the work. Say an artist’s name in a room they are not in. Give the work your attention.

Thank you to every filmmaker, audience member, volunteer, panelist, partner and friend who did exactly that during Nukhufest 2026.

The festival is over. The films, conversations and relationships continue.

Watch the films on Nukhu.com and find the full Nukhufest 2026 video archive at youtube.com/nukhu.

Help us launch Boerum Hill Community Storytellers

Like many New York neighborhoods, in Boerum Hill the stories of our Puerto Rican, Arab, and immigrant neighbors — the elders and families who shaped this neighborhood — are being lost with each passing year.

In two weeks, Stoop Stories is launching Boerum Hill Community Storytellers, a project that brings youth and older adults together across eight intergenerational workshops to document these hidden histories before they disappear. In partnership with the Arab-American Family Support Center and Raíces Times Plaza Senior Center on Atlantic Avenue, participants will pair up, learn oral history and photojournalism, and create four collaborative photo stories about their neighbors. The project culminates in a free public exhibition in spring 2027.

We’re raising $5,000 by this Wed Sept 30th to help launch the project. Your gift directly supports participant stipends, workshop materials, and the free community celebration and exhibit that you are all invited to!

Give $75 or more and receive a handmade, signed 9x12 linocut print by artist and project co-lead Gabby Vazquez — a limited edition of 50.

We’re 40% of the way to our goal!

Council Member Lincoln Restler and Citizens Committee for New York City are already supporting this work. Join us in making it real.

** If you know someone who’d like to participate who is connected to Boerum Hill and the Downtown Brooklyn area, we are building an intergenerational cohort (ages 13-25 and 60+ mainly) but would be open to additional folks), reach out to gabby@stoopstories.com
