POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

forgot to put this up yesterday afternoon but a couple of interesting developments took place yesterday, one for the present and another well into the future.

-

NASCAR MPD SHAKEUP: it was announced yesterday that chase elliott will not go for an 8th-consecutive national motorsports press association most popular award victory, instead dropping his name off the ballot in-favor of campaigning to let the late kyle busch take it.

if i’m not mistaken kyle larson has also taken his name off the ballot to do the same.

for anyone familiar with cup series history, chase’s dad, bill, did the same thing in 2001 to allow the legacy of dale earnhardt to be honored.

25 years later, the same is on-pace to happen.

no matter who gets the award, though, 2026 marks the first time since 1990 that an elliott or earnhardt won the mpd ballot when darrell waltrip got it.

-

INDYCAR MAKES HISTORY: arguably the even bigger news, the ntt indycar series is headed outside north america for the first time in 14 years— they’ll be racing at the circuit de barcelona de catalunya in spain in july 2027!! this marks indycar’s first european tour in 20 years, & 5-time champion & indy 500 champion alex palou’s home outing as he hails from the area.

champcar had jerez on their slate in 2008 before they merged with the irl which caused it fall-off, they did race at belguim & the netherlands in 2006 & ‘07.

to add-onto this, the 2027 indycar calendar has dropped! 17 rounds is the count, this race will unfortunately replace nashville after their debacle this year, & dc won’t return.

the season officially returns at st. pete on march 7th. other notable dates are phoenix doubling with nascar on the 13th, long beach on april 18th, the indy 500 on may 30th, this race on july 18th, & the season finale at laguna seca on sepetember 5th.

doug bowles did mention that, with only 4 ovals on the 2027 slate (5 races including the milwaukee doubleheader), that ovals will be a priority to add onto the 2028 calendar. it’s not been since in the wake of the 2011 las vegas disaster that ovals have been a major part of the american open-wheel schedule.

It’s been a long season for the @kauligtrucks group but I think it’s going to end in a high with a dub at @talladega.

Despite a horrendous 1.29 million viewership number & mixed attendance figures, NASCAR’s latest trip to Phoenix has given this title run the energy it needed.

Here’s how it happened & what we should expect from our protagonists the rest of the season.

-

TOPSY-TURVY: Going into Sunday, Kyle Larson & Denny Hamlin lead the points, but truthfully it was Larson’s to lose. Then the both of them had terrible races- Kyle in 34th following a blown tire, Hamlin in 28th after the same + a speeding penalty.

Now? 56 markers separate the top-7 individuals in the standings. Christopher Bell, Chase Briscoe, Denny Hamlin, Ryan Blaney, Joey Logano, & the person who won the Freeway Insurance 500, Tyler Reddick, are well within a race of the 5.

-

SEASON OUTLOOK: Plenty of these guys have strongsuits at 2 of the next 3 races, but to my count based on what I’ve read upon, Christopher Bell is in a great position. He’s not bad at Talladega, has a good record in Martinsville, & the same can be applied to Homestead.

Hamlin & Larson are woeful at Talladega, Reddick can’t race at Martinsville to save his life, & Penske’s pit-stop + intermediate shortcomings make Blaney and Logano longshots.

The only one I can see that I’m truly confident in that can fight with Bell all 3 races is Chase Briscoe but even then he has weaknesses to overcome based on past experience.

-

As we saw a few days ago though, this thing is NOT over until the checkers fly in Miami. Even then, we have inspection & as we saw in F1 at Vegas last year, that can rear its head.

Talladega is a superspeedway— All of these drivers have teammates to help. The rules package allows for more movement in the lead pack, only added-on by spoiler adjustments done by NASCAR for this weekend. Not to mention, stage points & avoiding crashes will be VITAL.

I’ll get into Dega in a couple days, but if things remain close after it’s literally likely gonna come-down to who wins Martinsville & Homestead seeing how good so many of these drivers are at both venues.

-

The final 3 races this year will be televised on network NBC so there is absolutely no excuse for you guys not to watch.

If the battle at @charlottemotorspeedway was any indication for how the rest of the war for the @nascar_trucks series Chase for the championship is going to go, @layneriggs99 vs. @kadenwhoneycutt on @nascaronfox is going to be must see TV for the next 4 weeks.

The most pivotal stretch of races are upon us. A quartet of venues remain in the season’s-long quest for a cup, this weekend begins it. It’s a 2nd stop there in 2026, does anything differ from the first?

The desert awaits. Let’s get into it.

-

AVONDALE- PREVIEW: The 1-mile Phoenix Raceway is about as unique as a short-oval can get. Not only are both corners configured differently, but approaching & running them are too.

Turn 1 is a wide 9° trek that graduates onto the backstraight. Drivers can be seen using the space below the yellow line for room + grip. 3 & 4 are very different on entry thanks to the backstretch being flanked by the SAFER Barrier dividing the track from pit-road. It’s also 11° in banking, plus it funnels towards start/finish which is located on a dogleg frontstretch that can be significantly cut.

Brakes are used substantially with the speed that’s carried, corners being as short as they are, & downforce generated despite 750hp under the hood. This means that drivers will not just take care of the brakes through a race but also the tires, as once-again iRacing proved to me today that the right-front in the Next-Gen here can be abused if the binders are applied too-much. That’s over a long run— as we saw in the title race last year, 2 tires can be useful on short runs.

Passing is significantly tougher than Charlotte since the aero & mechanical grip + spec nature of the cars are still finicky. Track-position and qualifying will be vital in going for the win.

-

FAVORITES: Team Penske & Wood Brothers Racing are loaded. Ryan Blaney, Joey Logano, Austin Cindric, & Josh Berry all can win. Joe Gibbs Racing have soldiers in the fight too, Christopher Bell + Denny Hamlin have great records here. Kyle Larson is Chevy’s best bet.

Of-course Larson, Hamlin, & Bell are title contenders. Blaney and Logano are in must-win scenarios since they’re both over a race back of the 5 in points.

-

WHERE TO WATCH (US): The 2026 Freeway Insurance 500 is the final Cup Series race on cable this year. USA Network has the mantle at 3pm EST, HBO Max is the official streaming option.

-

Have fun watching guys!!

sorry for not getting this up until now, as the race ended yesterday i was engaged in some drama going on. thankfully, that’s over, and i am doing better now, so let me discuss my thoughts & observations from yesterday’s race:

-

CHARLOTTE: to begin with, i thought the bank of america 400 was decent. yea, nascar’s neglection of the next-gen car showed itself but overall there was a decent amount of action throughout. passing was fairly common(ish), & the finish was unexpectedly fun— granted, as we’ll get into in a moment it was influenced by outside factors.

there’s not a track that suits the gen-7 platform in stock-car racing like charlotte, that’s what should be the biggest takeaway here.

-

RACE ITSELF: toyota showed their muscle once again, this time with christopher bell & chase briscoe. they lead most of the going until the very end, when the 19’s comfortable lead was halted by lapped traffic. bell made a quick charge in the final 4 laps, ultimately coming just over half a car-length from winning. it’s chase’s 2nd victory in a row & bell’s 8th runner-up in 2026.

this puts the 19 officially into title contention, 65 back of the lead. bell is now 51 back. kyle larson’s worst finish in a month still resulted in 9 points gained over denny hamlin, 49 up. hamlin, joey logano, bubba wallace, ty gibbs, william byron, & chase elliott all had troubles, meanwhile.

a good chunk of the sport’s top contenders all wasted points while larson kept finishing well. seeing how 3 of the next 4 venues on the slate are more specialty tracks for him, it’s not a hot take to think he has the bill france cup on one hand.

it’s gonna take him having bad luck & everyone else (especially bell + briscoe) to launch themselves back into contention.

-

phoenix is the next stop on the tour, i’ll definitely have that covered. preview should be up before week’s end.

i hope y’all had fun watching that race, the finish was cool as it was shades of the 2005 coke 600.

more motorsport coverage to come on this page, keep it here for more!!

An impressive pit stop from the No. 2 pit crew of @jesselovejr as they’re the first ones off pit road even while doing an adjustment pit stop.

Incredibly fast speed on those 5-lug @nascaroreillyap pit stops.
