On Tuesday, June 23rd at 6.30 PM Maia Twombly, with Isabella Tucci, curator of the exhibition at Treccani Arte in Rome (through July 31st) and editor Irene Bruni will be at Micamera to launch 'Tatia Franchetti Twombly: Stella Honey' (Reference Press, 2026) 📖👥

In 2016, Maia Twombly – granddaughter of Tatia, born Luisa Tatiana Franchetti (1924–2010), a self-taught Roman painter and photographer, and of Cy Twombly, the renowned American artist and painter— discovered a hidden collection of photographic negatives stored in the attic of the family home. What followed was not merely the result of a fortunate find, but rather a gradual process of recognition: a body of work that began in 1948 and spans several decades of the twentieth century, giving voice to an artist who had long remained at the margins of the official historical narrative.

Made across Italy, the United States, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East, Franchetti Twombly’s photographs reveal a gaze that is at once intimate and precise, attentive to the details of everyday life, domestic interiors, landscapes, and the people who shaped her world. Alongside portraits of family and friends, images of travel, archaeological sites, and places central to the Twombly family’s artistic and personal history compose a deeply personal geography suspended between memory, observation, and affection.
The photographs gathered in the volume also testify to the profound intellectual and emotional bond between Tatia Franchetti Twombly and Cy Twombly, who appears in many of the images taken during their time in Greece, Egypt, Mexico, and Italy. More than simple biographical documents, these photographs offer insight into the cultural and visual environment from which one of the most significant artistic legacies of the second half of the twentieth century emerged.

We look forward to seeing you at Micamera on Tuesday, June 23rd at 6:30 PM. Admission is free! 🌆📚
