This morning, I listened to 18 international female founders introduce themselves.

I went first (quite happily 😂), which meant I could sit back, listen and take notes.

Taking notes is one of my favourite ways of listening. But unlike the notes I take every day in my work, I wasn’t analysing anyone’s grammar.

I was scribbling down what made me want to keep listening.

We had nurses, health coaches, psychotherapists, writers, designers, facilitators, teachers, creatives… 18 self-employed women building very different things.

Around ⅓ were native English speakers, ⅔ weren’t, and all of us had international experience.

And first: showing up is brave.

Walking into a room where you don’t know everyone and talking about yourself and your work can feel awkward even in your first language.

Doing it in your second, third or fifth deserves celebrating.

But analyse I did 😅

I noticed people connecting before pitching — acknowledging a shared experience, adding something useful to the conversation, making their introduction about the people listening too.

Bruna @brunammarconi made us laugh at exactly the right moment: about 12 introductions in, when the room needed some fresh energy.

She read the room, changed the dynamic and pulled us all back in.

Melissa @lifeflowmelissa made such a natural segue from sharing her perspective to inviting us into what she’s doing.

Less “here’s what I’m selling”, more “I’m excited about this — come join me if you are too.”

And I loved how much these women celebrated each other.

Giuliana credited Inês. Lisa shared something Melissa had taught her.

And Rashell @beetsn_beats , who brings this community together, somehow remembers what everyone is working on — reminding people to share their projects and connecting women across the room:

“Oh, you two need to talk!”

Suddenly, networking isn’t 18 women trying to sell themselves.

We’re helping each other be seen.

And then Filipa @fab_space_ led today’s workshop with this wonderfully calm way of speaking — making a point, pausing and actually letting the silence sit.

No rushing to fill it. No need to over-explain.

Sometimes saying less makes people listen more.

We come together because some things can't be figured out solo, no matter how capable you are.

June, summarized: less small talk, more real talk.

July is next, we'll see you there ✨

MELLA TABLE 1 started with a question and TABLE 2 was the answer
Once again we manage to gather 30 different afro and Afro descent talent and professionals in the same room to share knowledge and skills that we already have but we rarely tap in !
No motivation convo
But actually tackling challenges questions and just being a mentoring village

TABLE 3 is open 27 of June

Yes, I went to my first coffee party at @the.am.cult

This is a trend I always knew I would love, but I only just got to experience it.

What’s not to love about a weekend morning out with friends, dancing in the sun, amongst trees, with great coffee, music, and bubbles? What a way to start the day.

The music really took me on a journey… wow, it was so much fun 🌟

So yes, there are definitely advantages to being back in the city, and these cute events are for sure one of them.

Look here. The world can feel overwhelming at times, but gathering your friends to tackle tasks, share resources, and build true community is key as we navigate life. It’s not just about surviving (although it often feels that way), but about thriving with friendship and love.

Normalize this and have the courage not to settle for what isn't aligned with your values. Believe in what is right for you and go for it.

Life is too real to live fake.
