This IS Texas 🤠 We had the best time at the @wineaustralia trade tasting in Houston representing our mates @briarridgevineyard 🍷 Sadly no one was wearing a cowboy hat, but consumers were super excited to chat all things #aussiewine and tim tams, and we spotted quite a few of our clients wines charming local palates. Thanks for having us and we can’t wait to be back in Texas soon!

VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE Picked up these four wines from a local retailer. All in the $20 - $30 price bracket. I just love trying new wines and especially less popular varietals. The only one I have tasted previously is The Domane Wachau. I will sip these wines in front of a log fire over the next week or so. (Winter has certainly arrived in Melbourne.) Happy Wednesday. HAVE YOU TRIED CIENNA? We just love trying the unusual at AWESOMME. We first tasted Cienna by Brown Brothers a few years ago. Now Innocent Bystander (purchased by Brown Brothers in 2016) produces a Shiraz Cienna. Discovering and researching Cienna has opened a treasure chest of new grapes for us – a CSIRO Treasure Chest. The late Dr Alan Antcliff was a principal research scientist at the CSIRO and was responsible for the original pollination of Cienna in 1972. The grape was granted “Plant Breeder’s Rights” in 2000. A cross between the Spanish grape Sumoll and Cabernet Sauvignon, it is described by the CSIRO as having medium to dark colour with herbaceous berry aromas and cherry flavours and good tannin structure. https://www.csiro.au/en/research/plants/crops/Horticulture/Alternate-grape-varieties/Cienna As well as Cienna, the CSIRO is responsible for pollinating:- Mystique Cabernet Sauvignon and 4 other varieties Rubienne Sumoll and Cabernet Sauvignon Taminga Planta Pedralba, Sultana and Traminer Tarrango Touriga and Sulltana Tyrian Sumoll and Cabernet Sauvignon Find out more about these new varieties at the website address above.
