I can’t imagine what this artwork will look like years from now, when it has aged like a true masterpiece.

I’m slowly beginning to understand the things you used to tell me earlier. And somewhere along the way, And without realising it, I find myself passing it on… A lot of it has been possible because of a mentor like you… @lalit.nagla like i said earlier… a lighthouse, quietly guiding many of us.

Over six months, countless layers, and more patience than I knew I had. I finally get to step back and say, “I made this 18x24-inch pencil portrait.” ✨

My heart is so full, and I’m beyond grateful for everyone who was a part of this journey. ❤️

So grateful to you, @lalit.nagla sir , for always being there and supporting me through this journey.

Thank you so much for your patience and guidance @jay_modhvadiya_ bhaiya✨

Thank you for constantly motivating me, especially on the days when I doubted myself @rushang_17 bhaiya✨

And to everyone who made me realise that I was doing well, every “you’re doing so good,” “you can do it,” “this looks damn good,” “Kripali 2.0,” and every little word of encouragement — THANK YOU. 🥹

Forever grateful for the love, patience, encouragement, and belief you all gave me. This pencil work will always be more than just a self-portrait, it carries a piece of me and every emotion, struggle, and beautiful moment that came with this journey.

The story continues with another chapter.

A year ago, while I was working on MAYA, I never imagined this series would continue. Yet here I am, ready to keep telling beautiful stories through the people, traditions, and cultures that deserve to be remembered.

This chapter is different.

For the first time, I didn’t rely on photographic references from the internet. And it wasn’t just 97 days or 550 hours of work.

It all began in February 2026 with an idea. That idea took me to my hometown, where I asked my cousin to become the face of this project. Together, we recreated a visual that represents the traditions of the Maher Community of western Gujarat, Porbandar, the community I proudly belong to.

From the traditional maroon attire (Dharwo), the beautiful jewellery, and the traditional tattoos (Trajwa) carried with pride from childhood until the very end of life. there’s a saying in our community that every female believes, ‘these tattoos are the only thing that stays with us until our last breath’.

Every element was first documented through my camera before finding its way onto paper, the grace, the pride, and the quiet strength reflected in the face of a Maher woman.

For the first time, I was completely immersed in every stage of the creation, from the first thought, to planning, photographing, directing, observing, and finally translating every detail into graphite. This is my first work that is entirely my own.

Her name is DEVI.
And now, she will breathe for eternity.

I’m honestly overwhelmed.
“Thank you” feels far too small for the gratitude I carry.

To my cousin, Devi, thank you for becoming the face of this story. To my little family at @brushstroke.art.studio , thank you for believing in me and making this journey so meaningful.

And to our Chief, @lalit.nagla my mentor, thank you for always pushing me beyond my limits. Once again ‘Sir, maja avi’ 😁

Eternally grateful.
Blessed. 🙏✨💫

Just a gaze that settles the room,
And now it’s framed for life.

“174 days of learning control, 875 hours of silence, and 85 pencils reduced to their core.”
Time has weight, and his eyes carry all of it.

I still remember the moment I began with his eyes, it felt as if he was watching me. From there, Bagheera slowly emerged from the shadows, much like his origin story itself. Born from calmness, shaped by control, guided by discipline, and defined by resistance.

The process was never just about scratching a pencil down to its core. It was about connecting with the subject, building the character in the mind, stepping into the woods, understanding his environment and his attitude. Taking inspiration, observing endlessly.

No doubt, when you stay with a subject for so long, there are moments of disconnection, times when interest fades and distance sets in. But at the same time, something else begins to happen. You slowly start adopting the character’s qualities. His calm, his control, his resistance start shaping you. And that quiet transformation is what finally helps the work come together.

And after all, he was watching me.

Overwhelmed, grateful & lucky to be part of this little artistic family @brushstroke.art.studio Thanks to everyone, especially to our captain @lalit.nagla
Blessed 🙏✨

Its true, when you stay with a subject long enough, it slowly shapes who you become.
