Chop Wood, Surf

Over the past twenty five years, finless wooden designs inspired by traditional Hawaiian boards have gradually appeared around the world. This revival is Hawaiian in origin.

A 6'11 x 16" Alaia inspired by a @jonwegenersurfboards I have on display in my workshop, waxed and ready.

Paulownia timber has unique properties. It is light and buoyant, flexible, and relatively strong. It also resists water and warping.

Five layers of Paulownia glued together in three stages with a specially made jig to guarantee a desired concave, chined rails, rolled entry and subtle nose and tail rocker. The layering of thin Paulownia sheets makes for a very unique flex pattern that offers a ride and glide very different from the traditional Alaias carved out of solid timber.

@bryce__young caught a wave at Supertubes on this model and did not get off until he surfed through Point. He reckons the flex is a wonderful quality very different to Alaias out of solid timber. The reverse rocker plays a huge role in keeping board in the curl.

Timeless, beautiful wood goods, made to fly and last.
