Day 1/Part 2: Finding food and our Airbnb. Great location. Even with all the commotion, I was able to catch the Tyson sparring session.

@henrytaylorgallery is a spot I’d been trying to see for a minute. Back in 2022, I tried to visit unannounced–unsurprisingly it was closed. This time around: success. It was an immense honor to meet him, shake his hand, and give him thanks. Being who he is, everyone wanted their time with him, so I was grateful for our connection. My special thanks to @jknowltron for the formal introduction. 🙏

@dannyfoxpaint is another painter I’ve followed for a while, so seeing his work in person was also rad.

@henrytaylorgallery is a gem of a spot. Location is great, the scale is perfect for intimate shows. There were a lot of ppl present—a fuck load. But it was great to interact with some of them, as well as just be a fly on the wall of the LA art scene.

@frohawktwofeathers and I chopped it up more than anyone else I spoke with.

His work at @blum_gallery is monumental in scale and scope. A narrative that is timeless in that it transcends any specific period. The insight he gave me, as well as the rawness of his perspective is something I admire greatly. Looking forward to our next interaction.

We had our list of galleries and museums to hit while in LA. For the first time, we were able to fit them all, and then some! Fucking love the hustle. My girl and I are getting real good at it.

Day 2/ Part 3: @wurstkuche for dinner.

@grandcentralmarketla and @wexlersdeli for breakfast.

Oysters for good measure, and then driving back to AZ in time for @graciestaxbar happy hour.

My girl and I got this shit down to science—just about.

Until next time, LA.

Day 2/Part 3: @hotburrrito1 OPENING NIGHT at @nazariancurcio

This show was a factor in us staying another night. Danny Gibson is such a fucking cool guy, super humble, and a hell of a painter. The shear scale and texture of the work is enough to make a fan of anyone, but man does he know color. He was gracious enough to invite me to his studio last trip. I saw some of the work in this show prior to completion. It’s a work of action, a lot of action. No half assed painting here. In a time where a lot of painters are trying to get away with as little paint and work as possible, @hotburrrito1 uses ALL THE PAINT, and PUTS IN ALL THE WORK.
Massive congratulations to you, carnal. 🙏🤝

This night we nearly ended up sleeping in our vehicle. But, ya know how I do… we were able to find a spot in DTLA, and the rest was easy sailing.

New City Studio presents “Mojave Lane: Retratos de Mi Familia” by Bryant Eugene Vazquez. @brygenevaz

A recollection and retelling of familial memories, “Mojave Lane” is a historical timeline of Vazquez’s family that shows his origin and where he gets his strength. See Bryant Eugene Vazquez’s story unfold with a series of portraits and scenes taken from photographs of the past and present.

“Not nostalgia or sentimentality. I am not attempting to overdress my memories or that of my family, but rather recollect and retell them. To remind myself of my roots. To use them as an anchor to my being–my origin. Where I got my strength from, and where I continue to from time to time, as I set out to carve my own legacy.” -Bryant Eugene Vazquez
