Rehearsals for Eleanor have begun! Last night, following designer presentations, Paula Plum brought Eleanor Roosevelt vividly to life during our first read. The room was completely captivated, responding with laughter, quiet reflection and even a few tears as Eleanor (through Paula) shared her story with us. We can't wait for you to see Eleanor when it opens on September 10.

I recently made my first visit to the Strand Theatre in Dorchester to see @commshakes’s CSC2 production of “Romeo & Juliet,” and the show was amazing!

The garden setting was such a fun take on the show, with fight scenes using garden tools as weapons. The costumes were gorgeous too - I literally still want to own several of those outfits. The Strand Theatre was also a great venue with a big theater space and easy parking. This was my partner’s first time ever seeing “Romeo & Juliet,” and he really enjoyed it too.

The cast was very talented, and I honestly can’t believe this production had such a limited run. It deserved to run longer so more people could have seen it. The good news is that many of these actors will also be in Commonwealth Shakespeare Company’s free production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream on the Common this summer. I’ll be seeing it in a week, and I can’t wait.

Shakespeare on the Common is one of the best Boston summer traditions, and if “Romeo & Juliet” is any indication, you won’t want to miss A Midsummer Night’s Dream - or honestly, anything else Commonwealth Shakespeare Company puts on.
