Is Squid Game: The Challenge ADHD-friendly? The Netflix reality competition, scored 🐿️

Series 6.9. ADHD 7.1. The interesting number is the one that is lower than you would expect, and the reason is structural rather than a complaint about quality.

Every reality format runs on the same engine: you pick somebody, and then you keep watching because you picked them. The Challenge delays that on purpose. For most of the first two episodes you are watching 456 people in identical tracksuits identified by number. The spectacle carries it, and the spectacle is the best-looking thing in the format by a distance, but the thing that normally holds a reality watch has not started yet.

That is the whole gap. Studio Lambert also makes The Traitors, which we scored at 7.7 six days ago, and the difference between the two numbers is cast size, not craft. Twenty-two people have faces from episode one. Four hundred and fifty-six do not.

What it is very good at is load. Cognitive load comes in LOW: each game explains itself in a sentence, there is no strategy to model and no returning cast to remember. Leave for five minutes and you return knowing exactly what you missed, which is fewer people.

The practical read: the first two episodes are the cost of entry, not a verdict on the show. The common failure is quitting in episode two and calling it cold. It is not cold, it is crowded, and by episode four the field is small enough to have people in it.

One factual note that belongs on the record: contestants publicly reported cold conditions during the opening shoot, some requiring medical attention, producers disputed the severity, and legal claims followed in 2024.

Send this to the friend who quits every show by episode 3 🐿👇
