POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

These are possibly the most beautifully sculpted hands I have ever seen. Rodin and Michelangelo are known for their powerful, oversized hands, but these seem to tell a different story. They reflect a life lived, with all the experiences, hardships, and wisdom that come with it. They are from a sculptured effigy of Mariano Sozzini the Elder which is on view at The Frick Collection in the exhibition Sienna: The Art of Bronze. The centerpiece of the exhibition is Hercules Fighting Achelous, a large, freestanding bronze sculpture. You can read more about the sculpture, its smile and the exhibition in a review on @bscenezine written by my colleague and editor, J. Scott Orr. https://bscenezine.com/home/when-hercules-laughed-siena-bronze-at-the-frick
Other highlights of the exhibition include several beautifully executed relief sculptures, particularly one by Francesco di Giorgio, which features a delicate architectural scene in the background. The work showcases the exceptional casting skills of the foundry workers in Siena and rivals the sophistication of Lorenzo Ghiberti’s famous bronze doors for the Florence Baptistery. Upon entering the exhibition, visitors encounter Donatello’s Tomb Slab of Giovanni di Bartolomeo Pecci, which was originally set into a cathedral floor. Centuries of foot traffic have worn down the sculpture’s features, leaving visible traces of its history. The sculptures are complemented by rendered drawings of decorative columns and an array of bronze ornamental objects. Siena: The Art of Bronze, 1450–1500 is on view at the Frick until January 18 and is well worth a visit. @frickcollection @bscenezine

For decades, the brick walls of the Con Edison substation on Avenue A between East 5th and East 6th streets belonged to any volunteer with a can of spray paint. This month, for the first time, the utility is paying artists to paint it. // Link in Bio for Full Story

New essay in B Scene Zine: Jennifer & Kevin McCoy’s ReLensing at bitforms gallery.

Read what the apparatus does when it becomes the work.

The electional astrology may not be the most auspicious, but the reading is good, and so is the tea.

Tonight from 6-8pm - 545 e 12th Street 💰
Get yourself over to EVVC for a fun night of sipping, shopping & penny pressing all for a great cause!

@leopoldmasterson ‘s Change Machine is currently in residence @evvintagecollective & all proceeds from the Change Machine’s residency at EVVC will go to @evlovesnyc to support food insecurity in our neighborhood.

Meet the artist, get some special penny pieces that will only be available at tonight’s event & snag some vintage looks while you’re at it!

Artist’s Statement:
You put a penny in the penny machine, turn the handle, and strike a penny for the future. Your action physically makes change. This is not a metaphor. It is a reminder. Every movement that has ever shifted the weight of history required bodies in motion and hands at work. The currency of the past becomes the currency of the future only through that pressure, that turning, that strike.
The first known pressed penny machine made its debut at the 1892-1893 Chicago World’s Fair and Columbian Exposition. Since then pressed penny machines have been a fixture of American tourism for over a century, souvenirs flattened and stamped with images of the places we visit and the moments we want to remember. This machine works the same way, but instead of commemorating the past, it mints the future.
The newly minted pressed penny can be seen as two sides of the same coin. On one side, it is a hopeful symbol of progress through our shared economic history, a history that gave us the middle class, the minimum wage, and the slow, uneven march toward broader financial inclusion. On the other, it is a stark reminder of our regressive ways of thinking about value. The last penny was minted in Philadelphia on November 12th, 2025, retired because it cost more to produce than it was worth. Yet the thinking that kept it around persists, in the ways we measure work and decide what deserves to be valued.
By placing a coin from the past into a machine and turning the handle yourself, you become part of the process. The future is the change you make.

The proofs from The Bodily Press are in! The Red Microphone ‘s new album SCARLET STREETS is being readied for release and it’s part of a package with my new poetry chapbook. Greatest thanks to Eliot Cardinaux for the post-production heavy lifting, Bill Goffi for his gorgeous cover photo, and of course Ellen Christi for not only recording and producing this aural adventure, but collaborating on its creation via sound design and vocalizations. All that and bringing in Dave Sewelson to add the free jazz bari sax into the sweet spots. Laurie Towers and I are most excited about this project and cannot wait to share it with you!

My morning walk to the conference included some amazing street art including an alley. The juxtaposition of old and new along the canals is so incredible. #graffiti #streetart #contemporaryart #amsterdam #bronxvisualidentity
