Recently, Tonya Skalon had the opportunity to attend Community Hospital Anderson’s open house for their new Cardiovascular Unit, featuring updated facilities for the Respiratory Clinic and Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation.

This is an exciting new site where our Exercise Science students can complete internships—just down the road in Anderson!

This week, a few of my incredible students came to visit me—today others FaceTimed me before their big graduation moment. And let me tell you… it wrecked me in the best way.

Since the accident, I’ve prayed every single night—asking God if I’m still supposed to be at Ball State. If this was a nudge to walk away or a call to lean in even more.
And then today happened.

These students didn’t just pass through my class. They’ve become part of my heart.
They’ve prayed for me, cheered me on, and reminded me why I do what I do.

Though I’m still wondering when I shifted from “cool big sister” energy to full-blown “mom mode.” 😂

Either way, I’ll take it. Because loving and being loved by these students is one of the clearest answers to prayer I’ve received since the accident.

God’s not done yet—and neither am I.

Y’all. The administrative assistants and students at Ball State hit me right in the feels.
They made me a GIANT card filled with the sweetest messages—and I mean giant. Like, “takes up half a dorm room wall” kind of big.

I opened it and immediately started crying… not the cute kind either. Tissue-grabbing, full-body sob kind.

I miss my students more than I can say. Teaching, laughing, learning, and growing with them is one of the best parts of my life. And getting that card reminded me just how lucky I am to be part of the Ball State community.

To everyone who signed it—thank you for the love, the encouragement, and the handwriting that made me squint (you know who you are). I love you all!
