The Peugeot 406 Super Tourer is one of the most iconic cars from the 1990s golden era of the BTCC, instantly recognisable by its striking green and gold Esso Ultron livery and powered by a high-revving 2.0-litre engine pushing out 285 to 300+ horsepower. Between 1996 and 1998, only three official factory drivers ever campaigned this specific car: team anchor and 1992 champion Tim Harvey, the flamboyant fan-favourite Patrick Watts, and double world-cup winner Paul Radisich. Despite this star-studded lineup, the car never won a single BTCC race, achieving a best result of just two 2nd-place podiums in the wet. The car itself was actually a proven winner—dominating and winning the German STW championship in 1997—but the British team was starved of technical support and budget from Peugeot France, leaving them completely outgunned by the massive Formula 1-level engineering budgets of rival teams like Williams-Renault and Prodrive-Honda.

Now the dust has settled… looking back on the season, whilst we may not have achieved as much as wanted, but we had an absolute blast. We’ve gave it absolutely everything and I’m proud of working with such a great bunch of talented people.

Huge thank you to everyone, the incredible team and its loyal partners, my personal sponsors and everyone who’s supported me once again 🏆 ❤️ 🏁

BTCC 2026 season review: Team VERTU

The teams drivers has experienced some highs and lows over the course of the season from Nic Hamilton scoring points to Tom Chilton's last race in the BTCC.

Too many dropped points from numerous DNFs Tom Ingram saw him finish over 100 points behind Ash Sutton. Despite this, Ingram stand managed to finish 2nd in the standings with five wins albeit with three of those coming after Sutton the title.

A late addition on the entry list and despite that he wasn't guaranteed to compete at every round, Ricky Collard managed to take seven podiums on his way to 7th in the standings despite missing Silverstone. When he missed Silverstone, he was 4th in the standings which upset many fans that a driver doing well as Collard was forced to stand down.

His replacement Osamu Kawashima was a name I've not heard for over ten years since he raced in the 2015 Ginetta GT4 Supercup AM class. His lack of racing mileage saw him struggle at Silverstone before being benched for the returning Collard. He seems like a nice bloke but Silverstone came too soon for him.

Tom Chilton final season in the series saw him take his 19 and final BTCC win in race 3 at Knockhill. He will be missed by not just BTCC fans but touring car fans across the world.

Nicolas Hamilton's best season in the series to date with five points finishes in 2026. His Jack Sears Trophy points total across the Snetterton event saw him earn a trophy and an appearance on the podium much to the joy of fans.#btcc2026 #tomingram #rickycollard #tomchilton #nicolashamilton
