THE WILD PACK X TEAM TRESE!! WAPOOSH!! 💥💥💥

This was a fun piece to work on cuz I had to think of how the dynamic of these characters would play out XD

As an animator myself, I'm so glad that we are getting Philippine culture and folklore represented through the medium of animation! 🇵🇭

PLEASE PLEASE GO SEE FORGOTTEN ISLAND IN CINEMAS!!

Forgotten Island reminds us that Filipino folklore, culture, and stories deserve a place in the global spotlight. Seeing our myths, humor, and cultural dynamics brought to life in a major animated film is a meaningful step toward better and more nuanced Filipino representation in media.

Here's to more stories that remind us that Filipino stories can be magical, messy, funny, and entirely our own. ✨🇵🇭

Just a fun quick comparison of @lizasoberano performances in @forgottenislandmovie and #trese

With a bonus clip from @sunchaser.series to round things out.

*UPDATE: Just realized I misspelled Soberanos name TWICE in the video 😫😫

If you like to read horror novels for October, why not try Filipino horror? Sounds good? Here are some of my recommendations.

👉🏻Horror tied to Filipino Folklore, Mythology and Superstitions? Check @yvette_tan’s work (Seek Ye Wh*r3, Waking the Dead, Insect Hag and other Stories) and Eliza Victoria’s (Dwellers, Seventeen Prayers to the Many-Eyed Mother, Ascension)!
👉🏻Graphic Novel? I really loved Trese Comics (by @budjette & @kajo_baldisimo) and Lucia Dreaming: A Dream Diary by @luciaasul.
👉🏻Horror rooted in real life, everyday experiences, and systematic failures? Check out Kuwentong Butsero by @joe_chua11 and Ang Bangin sa Ilalim ng Ating mga Paa by Ronaldo Vivo Jr.

🗂️ Here are my OCTOBER TBR that you might be interested in.
-Some People Need K*ll*ng by @patevangelista
-Ascension by @elizawritesanywhere
-Kolonya by Daniel Vicente
-The Indio and the Impaler by @wincy.ong

What are you reading this October? What horror book would you recommend?

If you enjoyed Forgotten Island (like I did) here are some book recommendations 🫡❤️. ALSO, take this as your sign to watch it if you still haven’t! @forgottenislandmovie #forgottenisland #forgottendislandmovie #bookstagram #bookstagramph #filipinofolklore

One of my favorite things about the movie is how colorful and lively its take on Filipino folklore is (a refreshing contrast to how it’s usually depicted in Philippine media, where these creatures is often associated with horror). If you enjoyed the movie’s take then you should definitely check out Squalo and Mage vs. the Rage of the Bakunawa by Kara Bodegón-Hikino. The art is also really good ❤️. #squaloandmage @squaloandmage

If you’re interested in more stories with Filipino Folklore elements. Here some of my faves. Janus Silang series by Sir @ecsamar and one of my favorite comics ever, Trese by Sir @budjette and Sir @kajo_baldisimo #JanusSilang #TreseComics

If you’re a visual person and really enjoyed the movie for its visuals. Check out Sir @takbotikbalang’s work! AHHHH! Thank me later.

I wanted to show off my Manila haul and also share a bit about one of my favorite and most influential komikeros... Kajo Baldisimo.

Kajo is the co-creator and artist behind Trese. His black-and-white noir aesthetic helped introduce Philippine folklore to a modern audience. Originally drawn during lunch breaks while collaborating with writer Budjette Tan, the comic evolved from self-published zines into a Philippine National Book Award winner and a 2021 Netflix animated series. His high-contrast ink and shadow work capturing Metro Manila’s urban setting continues to inspire my appreciation for the craft.

In my Kajo haul, I was able to pick up a few of his sketch ashcans and a variant Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic! How cool is that?!
