What has been your biggest achievement during your health journey?

My biggest achievement in my health journey has been regaining my confidence. For me, it was never weight loss, I just wanted to feel good overall with myself. I struggled with this from junior high school until my adult years. It wasn’t until my daughter was 2 (she’s 4 now) that I got tired of feeling insecure and just not comfortable with myself, I wanted to love me. I used to search for confidence in other women and would pick at every flaw that I seen in myself. That wasn’t healthy. One day I decided to listen to a podcast by Sarah Jakes Roberts for the first time and the message was so simple but so powerful. She said "love yourself the way God loves you". Since then, I’ve done nothing but love myself and did things that made me feel good through exercise. Then my journey through exercise became my love for health and fitness.

What is a good exercise routine you would suggest for beginners?

For beginners, I would suggest TABATA style workout routines. I recommend this because each exercise is timed at how many reps you would choose to do. You can do modified, high intensity intervals, or low intensity intervals and gradually work your way up. Start off with seeing what exercises your body can handle. Preferably I suggest beginning with full body workout routines that involve strengthening your muscle groups. For example, a beginner can start with modified high knees, squats, arm circles, side bends, and altered jumping jacks. Each exercise is 45 seconds, 20 second rest, and repeat 3-4 times. Do this 3 times a week for 30 minutes then gradually progress. When starting out, you don’t want to overexert your body.

What are some good foods to incorporate into your diet?

I would definitely recommend 1 serving of fruits and veggies a day (at least 1-2), following with at least 64 ounces of water a day. It’s important to eat fruits and veggies that will keep you hydrated and give you the nutrients that you need such as watermelon and spinach.
