Artist and designer Karen Bystedt creates at the intersection of fine art and fashion. Her work is inspired by iconic faces, forgotten stories, and timeless pieces, transforming emotion and memory into impressions to wear, experience, and collect.

Known for photographing and interviewing some of today’s most celebrated stars early in their careers—including Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock, and Djimon Hounsou—Bystedt has built a distinctive body of work rooted in portraiture, storytelling, and cultural memory.

Yet it is her iconic capture of Andy Warhol that continues to resonate most deeply throughout her practice. Warhol remains an enduring source of inspiration, influencing Bystedt’s exploration of celebrity, identity, art, and the lasting power of an image.

Three art gowns in this clip. One dream come to life. ✨

I’ve long dreamed of collaborating with dear friend French couturier Nabil Hayari @nabilhayari on gowns featuring my art. At the fashion show presented by @consuelo_vanderbilt_costin and @michaelaseewald_v24 and produced by V&S Global Studio, three of 5 five of our creations took the runway.

These gowns bring my Warhol art into conversation with themes in his own art, from money to the tiger in his Endangered Species series. The brilliant @umi.mcguckin worked with us on the concept and curation , I created the artwork, and Nabil brought it to life through his magnificent couture.

The gowns are now featured on the V&S shop. Link in bio 🤍

On-site at Intersect Aspen, two presentations from Los Angeles–based @Fabrik_Projects brought together artists working across photography, painting, sculpture, and mixed media.

The presentations created distinct but complementary encounters throughout the fair, from Jessie Chaney’s atmospheric photography and Glen Wexler’s new color series to works by Zoe Wiseman, Sonia Payes, Glen Wexler, Robert Bell, Kate Joiner, Brayden Bugazzi, Kathy Corday, Jen Meyer, and Steve Morrell.

THE WOLF WITHIN 🐺

A lamb surrounded by wolves.

At first glance, it appears to be a simple battle of good versus evil—but look closer.

The lamb represents innocence, vulnerability, faith, and the part of us that still seeks peace. The seven wolves symbolize the Seven Deadly Sins: Pride, Greed, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Wrath, and Sloth.

Rooted in centuries of humanities history ,the idea has endured because it still speaks to something deep within us.

The wolves the monsters within us.

Pride: “Am I better than everyone?”
Greed: “More. I need more.”
Lust: “I want it now.”
Envy: “Why do they have what I don’t?”
Gluttony: “Enough is never enough.”
Wrath: “Make them pay.”
Sloth: “Tomorrow.”

The painting stops being just religious—it becomes a mirror.

We see these forces in relationships, ambition, addiction, politics, social media, war , and even our own thoughts.

The warning was never simply that evil exists in others.

It is that these forces exist within us all—and must be recognized, confronted, and mastered.

That is why the lamb matters. The light within all of us .

And yet—this is not a story of inevitable defeat.

Wolves, even the wildest ones, can be trained. Not easily. Not quickly. But it is possible.

The same is true within us.

These seven forces are not meant to rule us—they are meant to be understood, disciplined, and brought into balance. Every day is a quiet struggle, every choice a form of training.

The goal is not to destroy the wolves.

It is to master them.

So that what once threatened to consume us becomes something we can finally stand among—without fear, without surrender, and without becoming one of them.

Last night, @pepeorro celebrated his birthday at @audiobarlv with all our friends, and I noticed he was wearing a #PaulVanDyk Global album shirt. I pulled him aside to show him that the exact same album is installed as the only front-facing CD/DVD in our mixed media mural by @bugazziart.

That album changed his life. It was what got him into electronic music and inspired him to become a DJ. It also features my favorite song of all time: “For An Angel.” His partner surprised him with the shirt as a birthday gift, which made the moment even cooler.
our birthdays are just one day apart. 🎉

Have you ever noticed that Global is the only front-facing CD/DVD on the mural? Next time you’re at Audio Bar, see if you can spot it.
