Teaching gentle hands and curious hearts. 💚 When children learn to respect even the smallest creatures, they’re learning that every living thing deserves kindness. Nature is one of the best teachers.

Accessibility Description: two young girls gently hold a praying mantis on their hands and arms outdoors. Tree and grass in background.

Our love of bugs always inspired by these powerful women who help teach my two girls that girls can love bugs too: @_soundoftheforest_ , @buggirlbecca @bigbuggirl_

Darth Vader Mantis (Parablepharis kuhlii) aka. Vietnamese Ghost Mantis Displaying Thanatosis (Playing Dead) Response. Thanatosis in Mantids is most often seen in Dead Leaf (Deroplatys spp.) and Ghost Mantids. Sorry Buddy, you were just being transferred to a bigger home! Didn’t mean to frighten you 🤤😘

If it only matters when it’s big,
is it really conservation?

Our brains are wired to care about what feels familiar, expressive, and beautiful.
But ecosystems don’t run on charisma.

Most of life holding this planet together is small, quiet, and easy to overlook.

The Wild Patch Challenge isn’t about forcing yourself to love every species.
It’s about learning to notice — and letting those lives belong.

🌱 Conservation starts where you are.

What’s a species you used to ignore, but don’t anymore?

Updating our sensory table this week to a theme all about bugs, insects, and arachnids. We are also talking a lot this week about respect for all living animals including the tinest bugs and insects. This theme was inspired by @buggirlbecca and @bigbuggirl13 how they both talk about the importance of coexisting peacefully with all animals including bugs. Also, I love showing my daughters who love bugs that you can grow up to love or study these little creatures too! Love girl role models like these! 💪🐛 🕷️🪲

¡SHNAKIVERSE! This is the next clip from the short version of our music-feelm “Katy’s Wart.” It is from our 2019 EP, “Joke Oso.” We’re doing a look back at the so far-slept-on art from our Shnakian past in anticipation of releasing many new ¡PHAT! musical and feelmic works that we’ll be ¡DROPPING! this new year.

This music-feelm is the story of the righteous comeuppance of a cruel maniac (maybe his name was Shnak Turner? 🙄😑🤦🏻‍♂️😒🤷🏻‍♂️) for his smug bigotries and harmful acts. Until karma finally took his little ass out, Mr. Turner had been “red-pilled” or some dumb stuff and believed himself to be exempt from the basic principles of human dignity.

In these last moments of his dog-doodoo life, we watch 5 otherworldly spirits of wrathful justice hold him to account. The sisters pictured here, Gillie and Katy, summon them from a yucky growth on Katy’s hand.

Massive shoutout to the brilliant animation talents and diligent work of Titmouse Productions (@titmouseinc) for creating this spookily beautiful art. In addish, we want to send props to Hollye (@hollyebynum) and Sam (@sowensi owensi) for producing the same-damn out of this piece, and to the virtuosic dramatic talents of twin sisters Rachael and Rebecca (@rachaelraerobertson and @buggirlbecca). R & R play Gillie and Katy, the heroic ladies who conjur these spirits to save the day.

So yeah, with all the doodooheads running and ruining so many things in this beautiful world, try to stay 1,000,000,000,000 % sucker-free.

In love, respect, and power,

💚E💙S💜

I am notoriously bad at remembering to take pictures, but thankfully, the folks at @chaoticgoodccg don’t share my forgetfulness! Thanks so much to the wonderful staff and community at Chaotic Good for hosting the UK Garman Club for an outreach event. We had an absolute blast bugging out on insects, and celebrating the connections between science and geek culture.

What if one day you decided you wanted to drop a little extra weight and fly so you wrapped yourself in a blanket for a few weeks and turned into liquid?

No? Just me with that desire? Whatever, my therapist has enough on her plate.

That's what caterpillars do, though. When inside their chrysalis they turn into, for lack of a better word, goo.

Then, these flower dumplings restructure their entire cellular makeup and turn into butterflies. If that's not enough to blow your mind out your butt then maybe this will:

Some studies show that moths and butterflies retain memories from their larval stages into adulthood.

Think about that next time you can't remember where you put the friggen' remote for the 3rd time today.
