This week on @parentinggist, we are breaking down exactly what is happening to our age group 5 to 10 with respect to screen time and what actually works for this age group.

Imagine ..It's just a Monday evening,
Your 7-year-old has already had more screen time this week than a full school day. 📺

And it's only Monday. Here is what is quietly happening inside their brain and the one shift that changes everything.

4.8hrs Avg daily screen time, ages 8–10

WHO recommended max per day - 2 hrs

The average Nigerian child aged 8–10 is clocking nearly 5 hours of screens daily.

That is more than a school day. More than they spend playing. More than they spend talking to you.

And nobody planned it that way. It just... crept in.

After-school, YouTube, Cartoons while you cook. iPad at the table. Phone "just for 10 minutes." One more episode. One more.

At ages 5–10, the brain is in its second great window of development. Executive function. Impulse control. Social reading. Creative thinking. ALL of it is being shaped right now and it competes directly with passive screen time.

The information is free.
The difference it makes? Priceless. 💜

Nigerian mums when their child says "but Lola's mum lets her do it" 😭😭

Sis said comparison is the thief of joy and she was right — we just didn't think our own children would be the thieves 🤣

May God grant us the wisdom to raise great kids Amen.

Have a wonderful week. Happy Monday

Save this if your child has ever tried this move on you. Tag a mum who's been through it 👇
